@Freespirit64 Pencil/ear placement was the custom of the people living in Brewton, Alabama. Most of their local farmers had a special metal cap for their pencils which they put in the breast pocket of their hog washer coveralls.
I haven't seen one of those pencil caps since I left Brewton. I think the whole town was stuck in 1920 because it was common to see mule drawn wagons going cross town. It remains the ONLY place where I had my garbage can stolen. The police refused to investigate.
