Even as a teen, I never reacted with anger when when gay men hit on me or flirted with me, which was fairly often, as my mother was a classically trained musician who had numerous gay friends. In fact, I was flattered… just not interested.

Same here, I worked in theatre from an early age to my mid thirties, so being around gay people was normal for me.
I could never understand why school friend thought calling someone gay was an insult and why I was supposed to be insulted by it.
