My grandparents in Mississippi were born in the 1800's and they kept their yard hard packed earth.
If a sprig of grass grew my grandmother would use a hoe on it to kill it.
She made yard brooms from reeds she gathered at the river banks.
Modern lawns didn't ever catch on for her.
Because of snakes.

A friend asked recently "how's it going with the Python's invading the Everglades"

And to his surprise I said..."Good! The Python's are successfully replacing the Corn, Black racer and other snakes that have been destroyed or removed by snake fearing people"

I used to have a pet snake....and you know I taught Environmental science most of my career...

It's just the slithery joys of living in the state where Ron DeSantis is Governor.
There are anacondas in the swamps and pythons in the trees.
They are everywhere.

Saw that this morning. Glad I live in a small snake place LOL
