I live in small rural town with Baptist fundamentalists who insist all that wine drinking mentioned in the bible was grape juice.
Decades ago I attended a Christian college. For five of my six semesters there I was the staff artist on the school newspaper, and did the occasional editorial cartoon. The school had a policy of no alcohol allowed on campus. One of my cartoons had the caption, "Christ's first miracle was turning water into wine. The modern Christian church has effectively reversed this."
They are sooooo conflicted! ?
Joseph Smith, the founder of the Moron (oops, Mormon) Church, also reversed the miracle. At the beginning of his scam, the sacrament (most other churches call it communion) consisted of bread and wine. Then he got paranoid about his enemies, thinking they might poison the wine, so he had a "revelation" that from that time forward, the sacrament would be bread and water. So, he turned wine into water!
