I thought it would be dark indigo with little white dots all over it. Is there a desert in space?

Mostly blue, not green. Most of earth is ocean. That reminds me of an old joke.
"Join the navy," said the old salt. "See the world. Guess what? Two thirds of the world is water! Boy, have I seen a lot of water. You wouldn't believe how much water I've seen."
