then why do stricter gun controls seem to fail so miserably here, someone will ask
and, how do you institute actual gun control with so many weapons already in the hands of the pop? all the honest ppl turn in their guns? its a pipe dream, unfortunately. we ripped this land away from the natives, and that legacy lives on maybe
"The United States is the world's undisputed champion in firearm ownership, with more guns than people: 121 civilian firearms per 100 inhabitants. Canada has about 35 per 100."
When I was in high school my class went on a field trip to a local target practice range, using a . 22 caliber rifle. This is the one and only time In my life I held a working firearm in my hands. (I am now 63). I live in a suburb of a metropolitan area with a population of 2 1/2 million, but I know of only one gun shop in the area (though I’m assuming there are more). And I’ve never heard of a gun-centric trade show ever being held here. Have I lived a sheltered life? No, I live in Canada.
The entire world has guns and mentally ill people in it.... The USA is the only country that arms the mentally ill.... After allowing propaganda outlets like the NRA and Fox to create them...
Finland is considered the happiest country on the planet and they rank 10th in guns per capita.
ty, i mean canada is swimming in guns?
We need to repeal the Second Amendment and allow guns to be had only by the police and the military.
wadr we already tried that one, and it was a resounding fail
While we're at it let's just repeal all the amendments. Freedom of press, speech, religion humbug I say
Actually we just need the second amendment to be interpreted correctly instead of by that fat flatulent fraudster Scalia who died humping a hooker at a gun club in Texas that was bribing him with free vacations and sex...
@Tejas I disagree.
@bbyrd009 One good reason for repealing the Second Amendment is that it is outdated. The stated purpose for the amendment is that at that time we did not have standing armies. Therefore, the citizens had to be armed and ready to join together to protect the United States. Now, we have standing armies, so there is no need for citizens to own firearms. In fact, when citizens own firearms, we have such disasters as school shootings, murders, killing innocent animals, robberies, forcing others to do things they would not otherwise do, etc.
@Lizard_of_Ahaz See my response to bbird009.
@BestWithoutGods Actually the Second Amendment is supposed to be interpreted in conjunction with the militia act meaning that those who are reservists or veterans would be paid by the federal and state government to maintain and safely store firearms to help defend this country when attacked by Domestic terrorist like the proud boys or 3%ers or other groups of this type. I for one would be more than happy to rid this country of the Klan....
@BestWithoutGods "The stated purpose for the amendment is that at that time we did not have standing armies. Therefore, the citizens had to be armed and ready to join together to protect the United States."
swing/miss i guess, sorry
A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.
@Lizard_of_Ahaz lots of people interpret it differently.
@Tejas Lots of people are morons too.... I am not one of those but if you believe differently despite the words of the founding fathers themselves then perhaps you should get yourself tested...
@Lizard_of_Ahaz so anyone that disagrees with your interpretation is a moron, hmm sounds alot like a religitard to me.
@Tejas Please and be sure to film your last charge.... Complete with your battle cry "Hold ma beer an watch dis!"
@Lizard_of_Ahaz i don't see how your meme or quote are relevant but have fun
@Tejas, @bbyrd009 You two know very little .... This is the militia the second amendment refers too not a bunch of Redneck morons who believe gibberish. At the other end of this link is a copy of the first militia act on the mount Vernon edu site.... [mountvernon.org]
@Tejas, @bbyrd009 We actually have a fourth militia act that states the National Guard is the official militia of the United States of America... You can find that on this site which is JSTOR and studies constitutional law among other legal subjects... [jstor.org]
@Lizard_of_Ahaz I've already said I don't agree with your interpretation so that information is useless to me.
@Tejas Thank you for proving my point...
i guess we've all seen the images of those who took guns away from their respective populations v those who didnt? Shouldn't be too hard to figure out eh? And let gnostics be gnostics, i reckon
"Does the Constitution allow citizens to overthrow the government?
--That to secure these rights, governments are instituted among men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed, that whenever any form of government becomes destructive of these ends, IT IS THE RIGHT OF THE PEOPLE TO ALTER OR ABOLISH IT and to institute new government, laying its foundation on ..."
i mean pls already
how else you gonna accomplish that, ask nice?
and i'm not even a gun guy, own no guns, etc
@Lizard_of_Ahaz "You can find that on this site which is JSTOR and studies constitutional law among other legal subjects..."
1903? And by Lt Col Umpty-ump?
ok then, ty
i'm not finding the broadly agreed upon alt interpretation though, gee, why is that do you think?
lol
we start talking food you gonna quote Monsanto bro?
having one on you there a bit i guess, i also get the interest in gun control and don't believe the debate should be stifled, but gun control just seems worse than none where it is practiced?
i mean you've seen the meme with the dictators on one side etc eh
even the counties that have the strictest controls are the worst i guess?
tbh imo fractured community is responsible for most gun violence, and all the laws in the world won't help, but i don't know
@bbyrd009 You just screwed the pooch by quoting Paine when speaking of The British king and attributing it to the constitution instead of his treatise "Common Sense" As for change or dissolution of the government change is provided for in the constitution we call these changes "Amendments" as in the second amendment....
Dissolution of the constitution is not provided for but Treason, sedition, and open revolt are as crimes called felonies and even a sitting president or congressman can be charged and arrested for participating in any of those acts... Try reading something before pulling opinions out of your ass...
that's Declaration of Independence liz
[archives.gov]
so try again maybe
and hey since i prolly won't be replying, i wish you the best of luck ok
It's not 'very complex', except that the obstructionists make it so. Tho I personally do not hunt (can't see myself doing so unless WWWIII comes to town), I am not for banning hunting rifles/shotguns. Tho I think the risks far outweigh the potential "safety", I'm not even proposing banning someone to have a gun for home protection. But, & it's a very big & obvious but, there are absolutely NO reasons for semi-automatic, assault-style weapons with expanded clips for personal use!!!! Period! (or in this case, exclamation point!)
"Protecting oneself from Government Overreach?!? Ludicrous! The Gov'ment has tanks & planes & drones, folks! & if things got that bad, which I think the Repugs are hoping for, many in the Service would be on the People's side! After all, they is people!!!
Anyone ,with the proper police checks, can own a shotgun or sporting rifle in the UK. They must be kept in a secure gun cabinet which is inspected periodically, People who like shooting at targets with handguns can do so but the guns must be kept securely at the gun club/range.
Assault rifles in the hands of Joe public ?. Don't be silly.
@OldMetalHead Yep, to all you said. & great Post for starting this conversation here, again. We need more than just the folk in "Gun Control Now" to be part of the conversation. Have to preach to all, not just the choir! Kudos!
