This reminds me of a great story. A former partner was the head Academic Advisor for the Univ. of Maryland European Division. She advised students all over the non-Germany part of Europe (Azores, England, Turkey, Greece, Italy - anywhere the US military had a base). On one trip she went to a place called La Maddalena - a small island off the coast of Sicily [en.wikipedia.org]
The education center was in a room located in a submarine tender (supplied and maintained subs for the US Navy). While she was there an older sub came into be serviced. When they found out there was a young, attractive woman on board she got lots of attention. The captain of the sub invited her to lunch in the galley and gave her an autographed picture of the sub, the USS "El Gato' [en.wikipedia.org] That picture hung on our wall for years. Thanks for the reminder.
