Mourning Doves are the most common bird who visit us. They are incredibly skiddish and very hard to sneak up on. I was in my tent/blind to get this shot. Up close they are pretty birds. My favorite thing about them is how they sound like their wings ...

Back to the same pond today after work! More ducks today, though still mostly mallards. I was excited to see the male pintail was still hanging around, and today I spotted a female. She is the fourth pintail I've ever seen (outside of photographs)...

A bird of beauty... As its name suggests, the Mandarin duck comes from East Asia and is arguably one of the most beautiful ducks in the world.

My mother and cousin fed the Scrub Jays this week. They are so used to people they tend to land on your head! Found only in Florida, in limited areas.

A sure sign that Spring isn't far off: the killdeer are back! It was only 19°F today, but three killdeer were still hunting the open water and soft ground along the edge of the Amish pond.

You can't spell Plover without "lover", lol. A couple of killdeer working on the next generation of killdeer. I stopped photographing before things got too graphic, lol.

A beautiful nuisance: the European starling. These are such fun, lovely little birds. It really is a shame that they're such a harmful invasive here in the United States.

For the past several years I have had a pair of tree swallows nesting in a bluebird box on the edge of a field. I don't know if it's the same pair year after year, but I sure enjoy seeing them.

Today while I was hiking the desert ravine below our housing division here in Albuquerque, I noticed things were almost silent..even the male curve-billed thrashers weren't singing. Yesterday the desert was noisy with singing thrashers, buzzing ...
