I'm in a tent in the Smokey Mtns park as I write this. There is an owl trying to drown out the bugs. Tomorrow or Saturday the first tentative voyage of the atheist navy will take place on the Nantahala River. Waiting on the first mate to arrive.

As I was finishing packing the car for a weekend hiking trip, I realize I forgot my sleeping bag. Luckily, I noticed my tent as I was retrieving the bag. This should be a great adventure on the trail!

Camping in east San Diego county. Because the fire hazard is so high in southern California, it is often difficult to find a campsite where open fires are allowed. There is something about cooking over a campfire that connects us to all of the past.

I love hike, and used like camping when I was younger, but I am addicted the lake. I recently bought my...well...not dream home (it's a fixer-upper), but it's on the lake! (no need for camping anymore).

I hiked up Sharp Top again. It is close to home, steep but short, has good views, and crowds too.
