@William_Mary All campaigns - republican or democrat, senate, governor, state or federal do dirt digging on opponents. They do it because they want to win. Principals do not matter there as much as we think that our candidate is moral and would not do it. They all know what the price is for not playing dirty. Every day all campaigns are plotting strategies to bring someone down and get ahead in the race. To think it does not happen is naive.
@Tiramisu not all are to win though. Take all these dems in the race for 2020. A good number of them are actually jockeying for a higher position. In the case of present senators and congress people, positions in the cabinet and or heads of committees. Governors are making moves towards the senate or congress. Plus if all else fails, there's nothing better than having a run for president on your profile to reach re-election.
