As I am disinclined to waste my time mowing lawns or weeding most of my garden is covered by weed cloth largely held down by potted plants mulched with a thick layer of hay.
I'm assured that weeding is a very good form of exercise.
The pink purple flowers are all from wind blown seeds falling into pots. I was interested to note that some white sports started appearing last year.
When grass weed does grow through the weed cloth I find that it breaks off very easily at the hole through the cloth.
It makes me laugh when people spread a fabric weed barrier topped with rocks. "I'll never have to weed again," they brag.
Wind blows dust and dirt that settles between the rocks. Birds drop seeds. Voila! Weeds to pull kneeling on hard rocks.
I don't expect to never have to weed again I only expect not to weed eat again this season.
Oh the weeds will come back. They always do, perhaps not the same ones, but some just like them. The best trick with weeds is to learn to enjoy weeding.
Weeding has always been satisfying to me because I can immediately see the results of my efforts. Unfortunately my back tells me not to do it in any but limited circumstances.
