close ups of the vanilla pollination experiment, see the torn away flowers that I've hand-pollinated. Still not seeing whether there was a success but it's a good sign they didn't fall off entirely.

Spring in the Midwest really is quite lovely. I'm hanging out in the backyard enjoying a hot cup of coffee and the gorgeous morning. The air is full of the sweet perfume of lilacs.....

Spring is sprung here in Pittsburgh...finally. Apple tree is in full bloom (Pippin Apple), first asparagus (can't wait to eat some!), first peach blossom, tulip and lemon balm.

I'm finally done pollinating my vanilla orchid, daily for about 21 days (except I missed 2). There seem to be at least 25 pods forming on 4 clusters, and looking up at the out-of-reach clumps, none that were naturally pollinated (so we probably don't...
