Lowes discards: Blue Spruce marked down from 99.00 to 50.00. I talked the garden manager into 25.00 for it. Then at the checkout with the rest of the stuff got another 10% off (military discount). Linda will have to find a spot for it in our back ...

Several years ago I grafted several apple varieties on a tree one being called Pink Pearl. Finally, this year it bore some of the apples and they are even more beautiful than I thought. Notice the heart shaped pattern around the core.

My passion in the garden is for ferns, or pteridophytes. Which for those who don't know them, are an old group of early land plants, which do not flower or set seed but reproduce by sporing. However despite the lack of flowers, the range of foliage ...

This year's try to save my gardenia. Last year I put a bucket over it with a glass top and it survived but it never thrived last summer probably due to the stress of the winter. The location is on the south side of my house so I keep trying. I think...

Someone mentioned how beautiful this garden was and I looked it up. It's near Birmingham in a town called Walsall. I'm wondering if any of our UK friends have been there and whether it is as beautiful as the pictures. When I looked up gardens in the ...

Ooh! Just came home from a long work week (i.e. working in healthcare during the Age of Covid-19). Took a quick stroll around my plant friends, and....was greeted by my FIRST DAHLIA OF SPRING! 🥰

Latest iris to bloom in my collection. This one is an Arilbred Iris which is a cross between a bearded iris and the much more difficult to grow Aril Iris. The 3 shots are of the same flower.

More wildflowers. This is the wild Field Asphodel, photographed growing wild in Portugal. It is perhaps the commonest wild flower of all around the Mediterranean, yet for all that it is common it is still lovely. Does anyone grow it as a garden ...

Boy I do love spring. The wind and rain beat up the dark Iris yesterday so I had to tie it to keep it upright. The last photo is an Ornamemtal Plum, my Raini's tree. I love the deep color and how the light shimmers on the leaves.

My son showed me this hilarious youtube video today. It is "sort of" about gardens, in so much as that is where one generally places birdfeeders. It is worth the few minutes to watch it. Enjoy.

Why do you garden? I really liked this blog post, whatever my own reasons. We might garden because we're ecologists, or suffer ill-health or are hard-up, or maybe just have land that needs using, or so many other things - honour the land! ...

The garden seems to be going through a pink phase this month. Rose 'Complicata', Paeony (unknown), Rosa alba 'Celestial' (wonderful scent), Lamium, Phuopsis (great ground cover), Astrantia or Masterwort.
