This doesn't make any sense to me. How is more fuel needed to reach our Sun, as opposed to leaving the solar system? Please explain this.
I'm no rocket surgeon, but I think it has to do with aiming...
It takes energy (delta V) to maneuver (in space or otherwise). We are orbiting the sun, and so must not only escape earth's atmosphere but also aim and manoeuvre to reach the sun - a moving target.
However, if we are just shooting someone into space, we only have to escape earth's atmosphere.
So the savings come from not having to aim at a moving target.
Hope that makes sense.
Rocket science?
Simple Newtonian Physics.
I mean, SpaceX launches rockets all the time anyway. You could probably get them to strap someone to the outside of the rocket for free, just tell them it's "for science".
Oooh! Ooohh! I know, I know! Drump! Just tell him it's for dark money.....
If revenge is the dish best served cold, off the solar system would be a better choice. But what would someone do to deserve such an expensive punishment?
need to see the math. lol
Yes, once you break away from Earth's gravity, you can coast either into the center of the solar system, or just drift out into deep space. How is extra fuel needed to get to the Sun?

So, I think it's all in the aiming, correcting, and maneuvering to get to the Sun, rather than just being shot in some random direction out to space.
Yes, leaving earth's atmosphere has to occur in both scenarios, but getting to the Sun requires extra energy for course corrections and what-not.
Just because one is angry is no reason not to be efficient!
