@TheGreatShadow They say you get what you pay for but snap-on or starwilly(German) who my mate swore by ,you were conned.
@Captnron59 My first set of tools as a mechanic were Elora cheap ,they did the job but I never bought them again.Always bought Britool .
@Xanadutoo What pisses me off is that when you have an account, they charged you 21% interest. I have a set of snappy wrenches. Good quality, but for a set of 10-15mm it was around $300 (not including interest). This was maybe 10 years ago. When you want to get something warrantied, good luck. Don't buy it from that dealer? They will tell you to send it it. YOU have to pay shipping. I've broken several rachets. The gears are made of plastic. They would say "it just needs oiled" or that there wasn't a malfunction. Sorry but you aren't the one that has it skip a tooth when you are lying on the ground, and you bust a nuckle. When you pay that much for a tool, you want the quality, and the warranty. No questions. Craftsman and Harbor Freight always just give you another tool. I had one guy I worked with that said Craftsman wouldn't warranty a tool because he came in after work with his dealership uniform on. He needed to buy the professional version.
@TheGreatShadow In the UK we buy Snapon from a van and it is easy to exchange I think the ones with plastic gears must be copies.Us men and ourtools.lol
@Xanadutoo These are actual snap-on. I was a mechanic for almost 10 years. The tool trucks would go to any of the shops I worked at.
OT is Wentworth sockets common in the UK anymore?
@Captnron59 In my case no. There is a saying among some mechanics. Borrow it once, that's okay. Borrow it twice, you are pushing your luck. Don't ask a 3rd time. At an indy shop you need a lot of tools. Adds up fast.
@TheGreatShadow You mean Whitworth I think .We went to AF and AC and now on metric .I was in the forces as a mech and our vehicles had a mixture of threads.
@Xanadutoo That's what I meant. Never had to use one, or saw anything that used them. I have had to use spline sockets before, but the only times were for head bolts on German vehicles.
Raise you. How do you know if a mechanic got laid?
