Again, a platitude that gets it wrong. Love, respect, tolerance, etc. are not necessarily "simple" things. I agree it is best not to over-complicate things, but not everything breaks down, or should be broken down, to the lowest common denominator, either.
& as far as what's "coded in our DNA", well, probably not any of those traits, tho the seeds of some of them may be. Tolerance sure isn't, tho some form of sharing probably is. Simplicity in some things is maybe a lofty goal, but looking for simple answers to complex problems is why we have the faux-populist we do in the White House.
The "common man" does not always have the right outlook on an issue. The simple "salt of the earth" quite often doesn't have the information, knowledge or experience to judge a complex problem. Quite often simple is just that, simple!
