I'm going to go out on a limb here and suggest this is more of a male occupation. Perhaps it's because males are more likely to be in charge of the BBQ

That used to be the case but I live on my grill all summer long. I will cook on a grill before using a stove any day of the week.
Now I know why beans were often served at BBQ.
