Great.... now that picture is going to haunt me.
My daddy said he loved to eat rabbits so he bought two pair and had somebody make a couple of hutches for him. The next thing we knew he had about 20 hutches and he paid this guy $35 to haul off the rabbits and the hutches. For some reason he could never kill them because he can see their little pink eyes. Like another poster he loved to hunt rabbit and that was no problem for him because he couldn't see their eyes when he shot them.
It's too bad that people who kill people don't have that same problem.
I can't kill anything, even a bug. I've been an ethical vegetarian for 20 years.
I hunted and killed a few rabbits, but I probably left even more go. I was more interested in pheasants, but their population was declining every year. Since I ate anything I killed, and I never figured out how to cook rabbit to make it edible, I stopped hunting them.
I used to raise meat rabbits, cooking was easy, it was butchering that bothered me. Wild rabbit was not a problem since I didn't know them.
Never name your meat animals!
@AnneWimsey We only named the breeders, but you still develop a relationship in 8 weeks of feeding the little buggers.
@glennlab We had 1,000 does and 12 bucks for breeding stock. We would get the babies to four pounds and sell them for meat for a medical nutrition center in Florida.
Both my grandfathers were hunters so was often offered rabbit dishes but have yet to eat any rabbit because I would gag when it was presented and scream, No Thumper!
I’ve ate hundreds of those, but I have never cooked one.
The last time I ate domestic rabbit was one day before going to boot camp in Orlando in 1977, I had joined December 16th 1976 but had to wait for graduation from high school to go.
@altschmerz It sort of takes on the flavor of anything it’s cooked with. Otherwise it’s dryer than chicken and less fat. But, cook it with beef and it taste like beef but with weird texture for beef.
years ago I was at a natural meat shop with my girlfriend . She asked what they were and the butcher replied "Cats" she screamed and ran out of the store never to return
