Hiking trip to Marquette, Michigan a few weeks ago. I’ve got less than 10 miles left to complete the Hike100NCT challenge this year. It gets harder to return to civilization after every trip. I can’t wait to get my van and go mobile for a bit.

I've been doing some intense bike riding on my days off trying to toughen up for biking trails. My granddaughter is going with me this morning and then we are going to geocache a trail afterward. She likes nature but not bugs lol

Mandy is certainly an inspiration to go outside. It’s too bad that I’m currenlty trapped in a windowless office.

Participated in the Christmas Bird Survey at Guadalupe Mountains National Park with a couple of friends. We slept in snow, hiked many miles and documented elusive birds.

Yesterday I built a nesting platform that I hope will house an osprey family this spring. If so, look for more photos around March. I spliced two 10' poles together and used a shipping crate for the platform. I worked alone with ropes to hoist it.

Hey folks! In a few weeks I’ll be heading to Pennsylvania to backpack that section of the Appalachian trail. I’ve heard horror stories about the rocks so anyone have firsthand experience with that section? How bad are they?

If you're in the north east, crampons and snowshoes are still a very good idea. Just hiked in the southern Catskills Sunday, and while there was no snow at the parking lot level, there was over a foot at the summit. Be safe, be prepared.
