It’s a Right Wing funded propaganda machine, has nothing to do with education. They produce slick, well produced versions of Fox News talking points. Because of their production values, they come across as believable to those on the Right who fear taking time to research issues.
Barnie2years replies on Feb 19, 2020:
@girlwithsmiles I read up on it. The guy that founded it and his wealthy friends originally were going to create an actual school. But then they started doing propaganda videos and decided it was cheaper and they could warp more minds just putting out their message in slick videos. We do live in the video clip age.

@LenHazell53, except that about 50% of the population thinks most of what the other 50% are saying is a lie. So which 50% gets to decide what gets tossed out as fake news? You know why lawyers exist? To make people believe that every law, every accusation, is not what it seems to be, in other words, fake interpretation of what the other lawyer is attempting to make you believe. And they generally only have to convince a dozen or less people. Fighting news, you would have to convince millions.

Barnie2years replies on Feb 12, 2020:
The problem is at this point, so called “fake news” has become whatever news a person doesn’t agree with. If you are a Liberal, “fake news” is pretty much anything on Fox News or any other Conservative outlet. If you are a Conservative or a Trumplican, basically anything reported on mainstream media derogatory to the president or his policies is “fake news.” Both sides have “experts” to back up their reporting, though more often it is omission of facts even more than fabrication which changes the direction of the reporting. And in the age of sound bite journalism, twisting statements to reflect viewers preferences is just a matter of which segments you include or crop out. This is not saying that total lying isn’t happening, Trump can’t say more than three or less sentences without at least one being an outright lie. But in the journalism field, reporting those lies can be biased by letting them stand as is, or fact checking to reveal the truth, depending on who your audience is.

@St-Sinner I don’t believe we are losing with the American people. I continue to believe that the majority are liberal, just much less organized than the Right and the conservatives. Just as Atheists are more independent and less prone to joining than the religious. We, as free thinkers, tend to be more laissez fair, meaning we are less prone to attempt to force our thoughts on others. This outlet, Agnostic.com, allows us to find common ground, discuss openly our thoughts and motivate each other to see our sameness rather than our differences. Something the standard media, and even less so Conservative media would never allow. So no, I don’t think voicing our feelings on here (and at least for me on Facebook) is a waste of time, or doing something wrong.

@ElusiveMoby I’ve been single for around twelve or thirteen (you know you’ve adopted when you can’t remember 😄). Pretty much dateless for at least five (not counting a trip the the theater last night with a friend met on here). I have adjusted so well, I’m not sure how easy it would be to lose my independence and need for every decision to be a compromise or every thought critiqued. I know the early years were both trying (lonely nights, lack of conversations, no sex) but you adjust to these issues as you go along. Having my dog these past four years helps with everything but the sex! 😄 And there are always someone or some organization to seek out when you need advise or a helping hand, even if you need to pay for the services. Best of luck in your voyage of life!

Even family! My grandparents on Dad’s side both died while we were away as did my Mom’s father. We did not come back for the funerals. I tend to take a very realistic view of death. It is the one great equalizer, no one escapes. If you get to spend a fair number of years on this earth and lived well, you should be thankful and not fear the end. I felt bad for my 15 month old son who died of Leukemia, he never got to experience much of life, but by the same token he never had to experience all the bullshit life throws at you. Time will tell and since half the candidates drop out long before PA gets a shot to vote, there is not much reason to get excited about the whole thing for at least a couple of months. So we shall see of the Democratic machine wins again with Biden ( big mistake in my opinion) or the Bernie or bust crowd carries him to the top. Or Warren get's the backing of the female vote, or Buttigege can pull his fans together and stay near the top. As the election in 2016 showed, polls and guessing don't make a president.
