The local paper published two of my bird photos in today's edition! And they only referred to me as a "him" once (presumably because of how my first name is spelled--I get that all the time ?)

A very handsome cock pheasant in Northumberland County, today.

A crippled snow goose and some of the Canada geese with whom he or she has taken up residence on Lake Chillisquaque.

This pair of wild turkey hens had 16 poults between them. I was lucky enough to see them, and actually get some pics, at the Montour Preserve.

My favorite bird in Montana: the billed magpie.

A family of Canada Geese joined me while fly fishing the Arkansas River this weekend. I have been watching this gaggle over the last few weeks and the goslings are really getting big! Holding their heads in the tall grass.

A pair of Goldfinches are enjoying themselves eating up the pests on my sunflowers this morning.

X-ray of an American Crow that came in today with a potentially broken leg. As you can see, no broken bones. Unfortunately, poisoning is suspected.

Some cheery photos of one week old Muscovy ducklings out walking and paddling on sunny days on my farm.

Today's guests of the large variety. Actually they have been showing up in larger numbers for the last few years. What does that mean?

This little bluebird left the nest last night! His parents very bravely kept guard as he flew to a nearby tree. I love bluebirds!

I just hung my four foot long bar feeder for this humming bird season. Had several birds on it within MINUTES! It did not even take an hour! Last year, our first season with a bar feeder, they ignored it for months. I had to wonder if these are last...

A friend called me about a young hawk with no parents in sight. It's a Broad-winged hawk (I'll add pics in the morning....it's sleeping now) and is not quite fledgling age (can barely perch or stand - which is why I would expect parents to be nearby ...

Some shots from earlier today. This time I brought my camera.

It finally happened! The humming birds actually sipped nectar from the feeder while I was still holding it, post refill! Photos if or when it happens again...

My only halfway decent pic of a blue heron, this year. These are spooky birds, at least in Pennsylvania. When I visited my sister in Florida a few years back I practically had to shove them out of the way when I went fishing.

There's a family of little green herons that lives around a local pond. The two babies are old enough to be on their own, but they still hang around (and occasionally beg food from) their parents. Here are a couple of pictures of each of the babies...

Daddy bluebird feeding one of his fledglings. I especially like the grossness of the photo where he whips the guts out of the caterpillar. I didn't notice that until I was reviewing the photos.
