Just used this in response to someone else's post so thought I would share it even if I've posted it before - old timers is my excuse if I have. This to me is one of the sounds of Australia

Some neat birds I encountered while bird-watching, today. There's a female long-tailed duck; a killdeer; a pair of American wigeons; since ring-billed gulls; and my favorite shot of the day, a male kestrel.

Varied Thrush, one of my favorite birds, I find woodland hues have a elegant subtlety more handsome than the gaudy displays of peacocks and parrots. Cedar Waxwings and Northern Flickers are other excellent examples.

It's taken about 75 years for Australian birds & mammals to work out how to use the imported cane toads for food.

A while back I posted pics of woodcock eggs in a nest. I had accidentally spooked the parent who was brooding the eggs and it flew off. I returned a few days later to see if an adult was still attending to the nest (this time with my good camera ...

A guy from the local birding club reported a common loon on a small pond a couple of miles from my house. I was going to sleep in this morning, but I had to sneak a peek at this loon!

A very handsome ringneck pheasant who was running along the road near the Montour Preserve.

A young robin that a vet in Harrisburg sent to me. She did a great job raising it so far, but doesn't think she can supply enough live food to prepare this guy for life in the wild. It's in great health though a little too tame.

Hi there! I rescue birds by taking non-releasable pigeons and doves from wildlife rehabilitators. That was the area with the most need. My new pigeon/dove aviary is 80'X18'. Does anyone else rescue?

Cedar waxwings at Montour Preserve, 3/26/18.

The local paper published two of my bird photos in today's edition! And they only referred to me as a "him" once (presumably because of how my first name is spelled--I get that all the time ?)

Riding around today, I saw a killdeer hunting insects in the local soccer field. I pulled in to photograph "him" and I discovered the mate. If "she" hadn't stood up I probably would have walked right by her and never noticed! She is incubating 4 ...

Mrs. Woodduck was here this morning investigating various cavities for a possible nest. Always a bit startling to see a duck walking around in my 150 year old Burr Oaks.

Good morning! Here is a picture of my Daisy Citron Cockatoo on the outside of the house looking in. :-)

Last one for the night. The scarlet tanagers are back in town. And Archer is curious about the camera. So if things look a little blurry, well.....
