As a person who did a lot of underwater metal detecting over the years I have found that a lot of resistance exists towards metal detectorists. I have done numerous ring returns over the years, I never accept rewards but I do ask people to pass the good will along. I have a couple of cannon balls from the 1700's that I pulled out of the surf line when I lived in Bermuda but most of my finds were gold and silver jewelery of modern origin. It is a very relaxing hobby but rip tides and marine wildlife are things you need to be aware of and there are also those human sharks to watch out for as well who think they can mug you if you stay too late at the beach.

The banging of pots and pans together was always a popular tradition at midnight as well as any other sort of noise makers, probably rooted in the idea of driving away evil spirits. A whole lot of kissing people that you otherwise wouldn't want to kiss and likewise kissing people that normally wouldn't want to kiss you (slipping a bit of tongue is not good form btw). A bonfire is always nice, especially if you missed the winter solstice bonfire or the Yule log on Christmas Eve. A personal tradition that my wife and I have kept with good friends for the past dozen years or so is that we get together for a Lobster Dinner together at either of our houses on New Years Eve, replete with a dozen oysters on the half shelf each and other delicious foods and desserts that do nothing to help us start our New Year's diets to the good. New Years Day we recover, watch a few movies together and play a board game or two, we always look forward to it as we live about a 4 hour drive away from each other and don't get to see each other as often as we would like to.

Everyone keeps telling me that I need to work on myself first before seeking a relationship.

When I lived in Bermuda there was only one franchise restaurant on the island because the government banned franchises in an effort to protect small business owners back in the 60's and only KFC managed to get a franchise on the island before the ban so it was grandfathered in. Kentucky Ducky was very popular on the island of Bermuda, I would send a labourer to get a few buckets of chicken and a case or two of Heiniken for the crew after a big concrete pour, there was always a line up at KFC. Mr. Chicken was the local chicken franchise and had several outlets but it's sales paled compared to KFC with its single outlet. There was a rumor that Mr. Chicken would round up the feral chickens which roamed the island in the thousands using nets and then fry them up in a unique business plan to cut material costs and stay competitive with KFC that had to bring its chicken in frozen from Jacksonville FL. Cheap chickens but a bit tough and stringy from living in the wild.

So the goats milk feta needed a few more days in the brine.

I took this pic in the marina outside our hotel in Puerto Vallarta last month, that salt water croc is only about 8 feet long but plenty large enough to snatch that child from its parents. You can just make out the head of the crocodile in the water directly below the child, the mother and child are watching the croc, the father seems oblivious.
