@273kelvin I don't know about that if the local paper still reports Japanese ex merchant marine men as Paddy Murphy. I do know that it is now more than fifty years since I lived in Knotty Ash. I vaguely remember the pub at the end of the road was the West Derby.
Funny thing about Andy Capp, not that I saw many of the cartoons, but I do not recollect domestic violence ever being an issue. As for the frozen north we had the benefit of the Gulf Stream and frequently had much milder winters than the Ice Age like southern winters originating from Siberian high pressure systems that frequently sprawled across the Channel to turn the arrogant southerners into brass monkeys buried under six foot of snow!
