When he was a teenager my father was in a dance academy, who often did performances at the Steel Pier in Atlantic City. From ages 3-5 I took dance lessons at the same academy, and for the most part enjoyed my time there. It's amazing all these years later I can still recall some of the experiences I had while in dance school. Since those days I haven't danced much, and the types of parties I've attended over the years weren't exactly centered around dancing, but I still remember a few moves. In my teens I started taking karate lessons, which distanced me more from dancing. At age 23 I was hired by a good lady friend of mine to entertain her and her friends on her birthday(she lived in a rather sizable house), in which dancing skills played a part, but I'm afraid that story would be rated X and not suitable to discuss here though. All in all, it's good to know some basic dancing moves, you never know when you might need them.

Conservation of energy

From my perspective as an introvert, no, your approach is fine. Please know though that being introverted and being shy, while sometimes go together, are two different things. I'm introverted in the sense that I'm not a big talker most of the time, and enjoy my alone time. With that much said, I'm far from being shy, and under most circumstances would gladly carry a conversation with someone if they addressed me first. Truth be told, I could never qualify as shy, as some of the things I've done in the past would be rated X;)

Writing a novel and would like some opinions

Hi Sarah. I can somewhat relate to what you described above with family members, some of mine are like that at times. People will be people, I try my best to either avoid or ignore those who behave in such a manner. If it is any consolation, please know that you are not alone in going through such situations, there are fellow atheists who experience the same treatment from the people in their lives. At times like this wish I could be there to give you a hug, but know that you do have friends on here who sympathize with and will be thinking about you. Take care in the meantime Sarah.
