When I was married all money went into the same account. We paid bills and whyy out to eat using that one account it's a savings account After the divorce whenever I have lived with my partner (not married but committed relationship) I have my money and they have theirs. I paid a set monthly fee which covered rent and utilities. I am an excellent Excel user but having to calculate half of the bills every month is tedious. I'd rather over pay a little and use an average just to keep from doing the math all the time. Recalculate a new average at the beginning of each year. If and when I get a new partner I think the way to go is similar. Calculate what the average monthly expenses are for shared services. We each pay for our own phones, vehicles, etc. Electricity, gas, water, mortgage, and lawn care are averaged and we split those based on agreed percentages. Starting at 50/50 but I'm also willing to make that more aligned with income. If I make twice what my partner makes then a 65/35 split makes more sense than a 50/50, specially if we could live somewhere cheaper but choose to live in my expensive neighborhood. Assuming that I make $120k my partner makes $60k. If we lived in a smaller place in a cheap neighborhood where the shared living expenses were $2000 a month, $12,000 a year out of the $60,000 is a realistic expectation for partial living expenses, still have to pay for gas, phone, vehicle, and insurance. If instead the shared living expenses are $3500 a month, $21,000 a year is asking a bit much. $27,000 for me isn't going to be a problem and the $15,000 for them is much more manageable.

In June I was offered a sizeable severance package which I took advantage of. Later that month I had what I would call a spiritual moment which changed my perspective on life. Now I did vote for the original but my personal favorite is the movie from 1994 staring Jason Scott Lee.

Now watching for the first time, so far I like it.
