I had a similar choice a few years ago. I wanted to get into adult education so had a choice of doing something with a practical application or do something that I'd love, I chose the latter as I would more likely stick with something I love. 7 years later I had a certificate and diploma in Egyptology and a degree in history and archaeology :-)

I firmly believe that actions do speak louder than words and his actions would suggest that he's not all in. Your profile states you're open to meeting men, so you're not all in either. So, are you frightened of losing what you do have? If he rocks up, says something nice and you end up in the sack, where's the motivation, for either of you, to make this any different? Have you broken it off? Does he know/think you've broken it off? Has it been broken off before and then started up again? I would have thought that the very fact you've made this post would suggest you, at the very least, have some unfinished emotional and possibly physical business. There's lot of details missing to really know the whole deal but essentially if you put a bunch of ingredients together and they make a cake then if you put all those ingredients together again, in the same way, you'll end up with the same cake. If you really want something different then change the ingredients. Maybe what you have is safe, maybe it's what you want, maybe this whole dynamic is exactly what makes it work (the way it does) Only you know for sure. :-)

I have come to the conclusion that one can and does fancy the oddest people. I would have said my preferred type (physically) was blonde hair, blue eyes, very slim. Being empathic is quite possibly down to the individual being receptive to the clues that are being given out. Not in a sneaky way but in an accepting of input way (if that makes any sense) I think it's also probably true that good listeners are more empathic that the 'What others are saying impaired' amongst us. I don't think it's mumbo jumbo, or a gift, or science, it's just a result of listening, processing and learning :-)

I haven't read the link yet but did study archaeology and did wonder how the Ancient Egyptians put a 20 ton block of stone 600 feet in the air. Maths aside I came to understand that the ancients had a methodology that has, for the most part been lost. It was always about maximising local resources and a logical, low tech approach. It also took a bit of imagination, vision and some balls lol :-)

I'm not alone out of choice but it is a lot better than what I had when I was with someone. I guess I've just got used to it but have always been comfortable in my own company. It may also be a factor that in any given month, take this month for example, I'll spend 10 evenings with my daughter, 14 evenings doing my 2nd job so will only have 7 evenings to myself so I'm not alone all that much.

I'm with you on the eye brow thing. I think it's a modern take on the Emperor's New Clothes. Some celebrity must have done and everybody copied it because it must be good when in fact it looks ridiculous. I think it detracts from a woman's looks rather than enhances it. But then again I'm an increasingly grumpy old fart who's out of touch with modern fashion - Thank god (If you'll pardon the phrase) :-)
