It is only about 300 years since Thomas Aitkenhead was executed for blasphemy in Edinburgh. Since then we have had the Scottish and European enlightenment but the blasphemy law remains. Apparently most of the "crimes" covered in the new bill are already adequately covered by existing legislation so why not just abolish the blasphemy law and leave it at that.

I am delighted to see Biden win for the sake of the American people but how will it effect the UK ?. Boris and Trump had a bit of a bromance going on and there is no doubt that Biden favours the EU over the UK. The so called "special relationship" will probably continue as one sided as ever. The much heralded great trade deal between the UK and the USA may materialise but again it will favour the USA. As regards the USA's foreign policy it will probably go on as ever with their divine right to rule the world. I don't think Trump did too much damage internationally and at least he tried to reduce US troop numbers abroad. It will be interesting to see what happens in Palestine. Idiot son in law Kushner's great plan is of course a non starter and hopefully Biden will have a more realistic view of the situation.
