Seven Creatures With Skills That Easily Beat Humans - Popular Science - Pocket
t1nick comments on Jun 15, 2019:
Interesting article. On a side note, so often humans ethnocentrically assume that humans are superior to other organisms because of our brain development. But evolution doesn't work that way. One organism is not superior to another. It isn't a competition for phylogenetic superiority of any one species. Instead each organism is superior in its niche. Each organism had evolved those attributes that makes it supremely "fit" for the space in the habitat it occupies. When those attributes no longer serve to keep the organism supremely "fit" within its niche, that organism either adapts (through a number of evolutionary mechanisms) or goes extinct. Simply because humans have been able to articially modify their environment to adapt to them, as opposed to the other way around, does not make our species automatically superior. In fact just the opposite. We are a much more fragile species then most. On top of that, we as a species have advanced to a state of "unfitness" that just might be spelling our demise in few generations. *For those of you unfamiliar with evolutionary terminology and jargon, I have put quotes around the word "fit". This is perhaps one of the most important terms in evolutionary theory, as well as being one of the most misunderstood by the lay public. " Fitness " to ones environment is the one key element that determines whether a species continues on or goes extinct. It implies a positive compatibility and relationship with all of the aspects that the species interacts with and depends upon. For generations, people have made reference to the "survival of the fittest". This has nothing to do with who eats who, or as in business who can consume the most competitors. Rather what it refers to is the most "fit", in utilizing its positive attributes to maintain its evolutionary viability. The Social Darwinists got it all wrong (eg. Trump and associates).

Its called a calculted risk. When the Republicans Impeached Clinton, at the next election, they lost several seats and control of one of the houses they dominated. As it presently stands, Republicans control the Senate. Should Impeachment go forward, it would take a 2/3rds majority in both houses to actualize. Right now, the leader of the Senate refuses to even let it be brought forward for a vote should the process go forward. Coincidently with that, if it failed in the Senate and Trump wasn't successfully Impeached, he and his cabal would claim Democratic harrassment and his total exoneration. The converse argument is to allow the law suits go forward. Slowly win the cases at court and get incontrovertible evidence of a felony. Once corraborating is in, then go forward with Impeachment. Final argument. begin Impeachment proceedings to give grester teeth to subpoenas. Expose evidence and get the greater part of the American public to get on board with the Impeachment.

t1nick comments on Jun 17, 2019:
In the Sociology (not Socialism - lol) of Education we talk about the hierarchy of the Elementary and Secondary Education model. According to this model, schools are designed based upon socioeconomic and social status. Schools in the inner city and in rural areas where the income is lower or substandard, students lack adequate resources to support or reinforce the opportunity towards upward mobility. Thier lessons are designed to reinforce following directions, meeting deadlines, not questioning superiors, and answer rote or non-open ended questions. The curricula is geared to making the cogs to feed the machine. They are being trained to work on the factory floor, work in the service industry, or fill out the bottoms ranks of the societal workforce. Plus fill out the lowest ranks of the military machine "the grunts". Suburban and middle class teaching strategies are geared somewhat higher in their aspirations. This group is given more open-ended questions. They are still taught to follow instructions and meet deadlines, but they are given the opportunity to have some input and make limited decisions. This group is being groomed for middle management or small business ownership. They are also encouraged to enter the military, but aspire to the lower and middle officer corps. Lastly, the upper class is given a more rigorous and challenging curriculum. They are asked to make decisions and defend choices. They are expected to be involved, motivated and competitive academically. It it generally expected that these children will be the pool from which the next leaders will be drawn. They are expected to be top lawyers, doctors, and stock brokers. Now exceptions occer at all levels in this hierarchy. Involved parents can motivate their child to achieve despite disadvantages (nurture). Prodigies and exceptioal talents occur within all the groups (nature). Likewise, learning disabled and slower students also occur at all levels. More recent teaching strategies have changed this socio-economic model of education. But it hasn't eliminated it, just lessened the more insidious aspects of this formulae.

Their objection stems from a selfish desire to be boorish and inappropriate and not to be expected to respect others differences and sensibilities and not be told what they can or cannot do. I do agree that PC can be overdone, and it seems that people gave become thin skinned. But in genetal they are justified. Afterall, the boors have been discrimenating, insulting, and dehumanizing these persons for decades, if not Centuries. They finally found themselves in a social setting where it is alright to stand up and drmand respect, and positive recognition. t1nick comments on Jun 25, 2019:
No. The fault lies in Trump, not the Congress. Trump is playing games. Their Jewish association has nothing to do with the Infrastructure debate. In fact, in my experience, the Jewish people I have known are infinitely more empathetic to social issues than their non-Jewish counterparts.

More people are working, but not earning significantly more. The increase in jobs occurred in the lowest paying employment sectors. People are still working two and three jobs to make ends meet. If this economy is so good, why are so many in this position. Trump supporters talk about the increase in black employment. Sure they increased, but the bar for black employment was sooooo low coming into this Administration, that it took nothing to register a significant increase. Same with hispanic employment This economy is about a lack of quality employment, despite what the numbers suggest. A one time income tax increase will not offset the harm that the tax breaks will do to the national debt. The economic divide in this nation has never been so great.

CB, from what youve posted over course of last year, it seems like Frankie has been there for you. I know at one point he wanted marry (if I am remembering correctly), but you weren't ready. Now that Jillian is here is Frankie still standing by you? I know his catholic family is a challenge. Having said all that, the question remains, what level of commitment to want and need now? Do you have any questions or nagging gut feelings that Frankie is not commited. Close your eyes and think about Frankie. Is there any thing that causes discomfort in your stomach when you think about him. Any regrets or hesitations. If not thats a good sign. If yes, is it something that can be overcome. Nothing is a absolutely for sure or certain. One generally knows in their gut if its not right, the red flags that eventually become something insurmountable. This is a difficult time because, with the new baby there are so many emotions, feelings, and hormones. Take your time, be sure one way or the other. Don't hurry.
I predict Donald Trump will win if Kamala Harris is the nominee.
t1nick comments on Jul 7, 2019:
This sounds like a white privilege perspective to me. I'm not sure this was your intent. From your bio you express concerns about troubling social trends that negatively impact marginalized groups. But your post reflects a whites only perspective. Kamala realizes that minorities are becoming a large voting block, and that Trump is spurring the dialogue around racial discrimenation as it hasnt been since 1964. She is betting that monorities, women , and the under 30 vote will be the tipping point in at last overtaking the white vote. Its early in the race, and she realizes that galvanizing her contigency will pay off down the road. Don't mistake my point. I'm not saying she is a shoe-in to win. And Im not saying that the contigency she is attempting to appeal too will ultimarely be successful in overtaking and reversing traditional white male dominance in politics in this next election. But she/they might be. She is part of a growing ground swell. It may not realize itself in 2020 fully, but it is a force to be reckoned with in the future.

Kate Raworth: A healthy economy should be designed to thrive, not grow | TED Talk
t1nick comments on Mar 17, 2019:
Business, economics and capitalism should act like evolutionary principles. Evolution says that a species (aka. a business) should do what is both necessary and advantageous to maintain the best fitness in ones environment (aka. operant business community) to assure perpetuation of that species (business) ad infinitum into the future. That means looking long term. Asking the question, "What can I (individual employer) do to assure the best situation for as long as I can envision. This means the best situation for all the members of my immediate population (employees), my larger business community (economy) and myself (business owner) so that we all prosper going forward. As the alpha individual (business owner) I am entitled to a proportionate share, as long as I assure that the others that I am responsible for (employees) are also carred for going forward. This means moving away from our present dysfunctional system of predatory capitalism which seeks to maximize profits short term, regardless of the impact to the species (business community), and the members of the immediate population (employees). A simple example of the principle: I own a small business of a couple dozen employees. We are doing well enough that I decide to offer my employees a small reward. I tell my employees that I will provide them with donuts during their break. But there is a caveat. They are only allowed two donuts each. All goes well for awhile. But after a couple of weeks, complaints begin coming in that those individuals that have the last break are finding that there are no donuts left. Someone or someones are helping themselves to more than their allowed donuts. The incident is addressed in a company wide meeting. It returns to normal for a couple of days, but again the pattern begins to repeat and complaints begin to come in again. I have no choice but to discontinue the reward as it has become too much of a problem and just not working as intended. The question that the employees should have been asking themselves is. "What do I need to do to keep the reward ongoing forever?". The answer was simple, take what was offered and not take more than was intended. Perpetuation of the species (via donut supply) by taking only what is needed or reasonable. There are 3 types of desires. 1) Absolute need - the objected is needed in order to survive (eg. Starvation); 2) Want - the desire is strong, but not survival level. I am hungry and another donut would stave off that pit in my stomach, but I could do without with no real danger to my health; and 3) irrational want - it would be nice to have a third donut, I'm not really that hungry, I just like donuts and enjoy sugar rushes. Employers and corporations need to do what is ...

t1nick comments on Mar 28, 2019:
I think you are conflating technology with science perhaps. Technology is about making ones daily life easier, not happier. You would think there would be a correlation but there really isn't. More free time offers more time to contemplate what you don't have, what you would like to have, or what your missing out on. As I eluded to on many previous posts, science is not same as technology, and technology is not the same thing as science. Technology borrows from science to advanve their agenda and discoveries. But technology is not constrained by the same rigid guidelines and controls. They should be, but often (not always) do not adhere. Technology is constrained by the bottom line and the market place. The cost/benefit constraint has more influence in the outcome frequently than the scientific controls. Many advancements are couched in a veneer of science, but final decisions are based on economics, not scientific exactitude.

Big Foot can be disproved with population biology. Based on the number of supposed sightings, there is not a large enough of a breeding population to keep the species alive and viable. No residual bone evidence found anywhere (surley some individuals must have died and left their bones lying about and humans have thouroughly combed the forests and mountains in the area they supposed occupy), modern or ancient. Loch Ness has been solved. The Loch has a direct connection with the ocean at the north end of Scotland. A resesrch group a few years back traced the connection all the way to the ocean. They scoured the ocean between Scotland and Iceland and eventually found a species of fish that resembles the pictures, movements, and approximate dimensions consistent with the famous photo. Subsequently, the fish is capable of short term transition and can live in fresh water for a short while, then returns to the ocean.

Why Is It Difficult to Get Christians to Care About the Earth? | Sojourners
t1nick comments on Apr 23, 2019:
At the end of the Romanesque Period in Europe, Christianity embarked on a new movement (800-1200 CE). This new movement ushered in the era of the large cathedrals (eg. Notre Dame and Chartres). It was a major paradigm shift. Open and airly architecture became the norm with the vaulted ceilings, great ornamentation with scupltures and stained glass. No to the real point. With this shift came anorher paradigm shift. The church not only suddenly saw itself, and declared itself separate from nature and the beasts of the Earth. Where previously Christians had viewed themselves as a part of nature, now with this new vaulted perspective, they viewed themselves separate from Nature. Nature was below them as they were made in God's image afterall. Christians declared that all of God's creatures and all his vegetal bounty was put there for his use. God put everything on Earth for mans exploitation. There was no need to conserve, no need to protect as God would forever protect his chosen species. That is why Christians do not respect Nature, do not believe in husbanding Nature. The see it as inferior to humankind and therefore it is not a sin to exact the atrocities upon Nature that they do. This is the stated paradigm of most Evangelicals today. Pense has stated such on more than one occasion.

Yeah I can get to general posts, but not create a new post. I don't think this was the type of fix intended.

With all due respect to the working class, a lot of the anger is partially theirs to own. Multple opportunities at retraining has been offered to help families transition in industries that were disappersring. But most were short sighted. They thought that it would last until they retired, then they wouldn't have to worry anymore as it was somebody else's problem.

Evangelicals had no relationship with Jesus to begin with. Everything they did and do are contrary to the teachings of Jesus. They just use his name to hide their indiscretions.
