If it weren't for the fact that the Dr. Seuss books were written specifically for early readers, I doubt they'd have been discontinued.
LenHazell53 replies on Mar 7, 2021:
Don't you believe it, the BBC cancelled a whole load of classic films a few years back, including one that is widely acknowledged as one of the top ten greatest comedy films of all time Kind Hearts and Coronets (1949). This was done for the single use of the children's nursery rhyme "Eeny, meeny, miny moe" which contains a contemporary use of the N word, which could have been bleeped. This is even after the nationality of the lead character was changed from the source material from being half Jewish to half Italian to be sensitive to the Nazi atrocities. This is creeping censorship is for the purposes of revisionist history by the soon to come "the Ministry of Truth". Many years ago the works of Enid Blyton where censored to remove all mentions of Gollywogs living in toy town, by changing them to goblin dolls. This was a possibly understandable measured response, but today ALL Enid Blyton works would have been canceled outright and probably will be given time for all sorts of other reasons because the books are contemporary to their time of authorship. Once this is established as a precedent, we can say good by to Dickens (Anti Semite, sexist, racist, class conscious prejudice and lack of diversity) Shakespeare (Anti Semite, sexist, racist, class conscious prejudice and lack of diversity) Charles Kingsley (Anti Semite, sexist, racist, class conscious prejudice and lack of diversity) and D. H. Lawrence will be back on the banned books list before you can say Lady Chatterley. This is not about sensitivity, it is about revisionist history and attempt to not only improve the society of today, but to spread the lie that the western world was ALWAYS subject to the social sensibilities of today and only a minority of nasty deviants were ever Anti Semite, sexist, racist, swine who never had statues erected to them.
Yes it is a joke, and a video, but the punch line at the very end is very quotable.

So when a fanatical leader sends "some other poor bastard's bastard kid to go die in a patriotic manner" and the person he sends them against is you, do you offer him a cup of tea, or do you drive him back by matching force with force? Remember part of being a civilised society is the ability to defend that civility. A civilised man can act like a thug and then go back to being civilised, a barbarian will only see the benefits of civilisation when it has been proven to him that civilisation is actually stronger, than the lie he has been fed, that warrior might makes right.

@Flowerwall *Also "Virus load has always lead to variances in severity upon infection" okay, if true why did CDC not recommend masks from the start? This would have saved ppl's lives. What data did they use to say no masks?* Yes it would have saved countless lives, Japan and have been using masks to stop the spread of other corona virus for decades since they were first discovered in the 1960s, among the general public. In 2003/2004 when the SARS out break happened most of the far east Asian countries were masking up and in case you have forgotten the disease we call Covid 19 IS a SARS virus SARS-CoV-2, so that is were a lot of the Data comes from, why did they ignore it God only knows and he does not exist! Why the American government (and the British come to that) refused to recommend masks from the start is because it was hoped to gain herd immunity by letting the virus run wild, that is probably why 100s of thousands of people have died unnecessarily, I know they both lied about it because along with Brazil we were about the ONLY countries NOT recommending mask wearing, lockdowns and PPE for the general public until it was far to late. When it finally became clear herd immunity would come at the cost of almost 60 million lives, they realised it was a fuckwit idea, though it is still thought by some arseholes to be the best one. On your last point it is long since proven natural immunity does not guarantee you will not become re-infected or that you will not catch a variant, so immunisation by vaccine is a good idea even for those who have already had the disease. You see natural antibodies attack the virus as a whole and production of antibodies subsides naturally when the infection is clear, the vaccine fools the bodies own immune system in to thinking it has the disease when it does not and so stimulates the production of antibodies for a much longer period of time and in much greater quantities providing prolonged protection that can be topped up on a periodic basis. This is also how flu vaccines works and have done for years, with only minor variations most years, but with occasional flare ups of new strains like the swine flu and the bird flue for which the vaccine will be adjusted as and when needed. This is what will eventually become normal for C19.

Even today billions of people still see this same gawd's word as perfect, ineffable and infallible and unchanging for all time, that is a part of our culture, continuing to be perpetrated by this filthy book. So regardless of the time or culture and no matter who theological spin you wish to put on it, this passage is down right immoral and by ever definition of the term constitutes hate speech, yet is excused because it is scriptural. LenHazell53 replies on Feb 18, 2021:
Plague is not one of Masterton's best novels, true but I still found it enjoyable. It is from a time when he and his contemporary and rival James Herbert's early books such as Plague and "The Rats" trilogy tried to step away from supernatural horror in favour of social and environmental horror. Speculative fiction extrapolated from current events and historical precedent. Masterton in later years reworked many of these novels adding supernatural elements, such as vampires etc. to much greater success and branching away from his horror in a separate set of crime, historical and thriller novels published by a different house.
