I love that that word finds common usage in English-as-a-second-language places far more often than in the U.S. or even Britain. It's definitely up there. Good call out on it.
LenHazell53 replies on Oct 11, 2018:
@PolyWolf "Bamboozle is often used in India, of all places. " Not surprising at all it is a Hindi word, brought back to the UK during the time of the Rajah and anglicized bamboo jale pronounced Bamboojal (Literal translation a Bamboo burner or person who burns bamboo) is a reference to the now forgotten Hindu belief that the smell of burning bamboo was displeasing to certain gods and would bring ill luck and mental instability on the sinner (bamboo fumes are mildly toxic). The word simply became a slang term for those who know no better than to do stupid things and then in England became a word meaning to confuse, or to make stupid.

@FrayedBear No I understand what you are saying but in my opinion, Ignorance, stupidity and dangerous negligence have nothing to do with education or even potential intelligence. I have known highly educated people who are utter idiots, they have all the knowledge in the world and still be utterly negligent, ignorant of good manners, socially acceptable behaviour and general common sense. Contrarily my best friend of 30 years finished school with no qualification whatsoever was told he would never amount to anything and spent much of his working life in a bathroom fittings warehouse. At thirty six he was a successful self educated writer, went to college, then university and by the time of his death at the age of 52 was a doctor of literature, a professor of Critical theory and a successful script doctor of film and television scripts, play write and creative writing teacher. This is why I say no one has the right to be the sort of ignorant, negligent, unthinking idiot who would leave a 7 year old home alone in a high rise with the window unlocked. That sort of behaviour take a special kind of self indulgent moron. I agree with your comments on the standards of education, and teaching, which again I think proves my point as I was moved from one school to another twice a years every year while growing up, I can say in all honesty, 90% of my education came from myself, from reading, studying and almost living in public libraries from the age of 11 and yet I was still stupid enough to be ensnared by religious indoctrination until the age of almost thirty.

I always find that example a bit silly. One may yell anything anywhere if no negative intent is involved. I have been in crowded cinema's watching "Wrath of Khan" when dozens of people of joined in with Kirk, yelling "Fire!" as the Enterprise attacks. This day and age a cry of fire, not accompanied by an alarm going off will probably only result in people shouting STFU in response. Personally I use Incitement to crime or riot as the example of a limit on free speech since by necessity inferred negative intent is can be implied.

LenHazell53 replies on Oct 6, 2018:
"smoking should be prohibited when non-smokers are present" Can that not be reversed? If the non smokers presence infringes on the comfort of the smoker, should they not either remove themselves or put up with it? Especially if the smoker was there first. Legislating to make the lives of smokers uncomfortable is surely government restriction of personal liberty? Before the smoking ban in public places there were always Smoking and non smoking areas, allowing for freedom *to* smoke where allowed, and be free *from* smoke where it is not was a reasonable compromise, was it not? "my freedom should be restrained if its exercise has a significant negative effect on the well-being of the society or community" Presumably you are here speaking in the context of non illegal activities such as murder, theft and assault. Given those circumstances who defines "negative effect on the well-being of the society or community"? and that being so why are those action NOT illegal? Freedom to, and freedom from are tricky and require a balance with tolerance and common sense.
Now here is something pornographic to behold.

@Secular_Squirrel Exactly, and for me the supreme example of free will is the person who goes on hunger strike to the point of death. Since the argument against free will is predicated on the assertion that you cannot tell where your desires come from, denying actual detectable desires (food and survival) that have physical and identifiable origins for reasons easily identified as moral judgement based upon social need or desire, completely invalidates that argument and offers a potential proof of free will.

I don't know what you're trying to say, but little advice: "People with disabilities" is the correct expression here, and there is no such thing as a "female." That term is an adjective.
LenHazell53 replies on Oct 1, 2018:
Female can be used as an adjective when applied to a specific noun (eg Doe a dear a female dear), but generally it is a contextual Noun. As to what Greenheart is expressing it is a matter of incredulity to me also, that women, gay people, people with disabilities (and many of us have never objected to the term handicapped) and gentiles would ever want to be Christians considering who disparagingly the bible talks about them. The Old Testament would have them all put to death or be oppressed, and the the New testament would have them burn in Hell forever or in the case of women, submit utterly to men and sit silently or else face hell fire too.

@MarvelAnn If you want a parody you cannot do better than either Without a Clue (1988 ) Michael Caine & Ben Kingsley brilliantly funny or The Private life of Sherlock Holmes 1970 Billy Wilder Both are wonderful parodies, as opposed to this new film that appears to be a collection of slapstick jokes and bad taste. Still each to their own.

Return of the fly is probably the more frightening film some of the imagery is really horrific, such as the man with rat paws staring and gibbering in shock at the rat that now has human fingers. (there was also a third film in B+W curse of the fly made in 1965, but it usually ignored as basically a poor remake by a different studio of the first film)

@WilliamFleming @Lop-Eared-Mule It is an answer you simple do not agree with it, or you don't understand it. Asking "Where Did the Universe Come From?" if (Repeat IF) the universe did not come from anywhere, is a moot question. However if as I postulate existence simply is, one can legitimately ask how did the universe get organised in the state we observe today, THAT is a good question and the one quantum physics is attempting to answer. If you can prove to me that total non existence is, actual, possible or even viable then "Where Did the Universe Come From?" will be a legitimate question, until you can do that then my hypothesis that existence simply is the natural state, is probably the best answer that can be given.

You postulate a machine that would allow the detection of things of things we cannot otherwise perceive or interact with, and that can neither perceive or interact with us. The effect is pretty much useless and the artificial detection could still only translate those outsiders in terms we could perceive so would only be a shadow, a representation of what they actually were or are so even knowledge is advanced no further than saying we know know, something that can be represented as a picture or a sound exist outside of our sphere of influence.
