After all these years you have not figured out that Bobby McFerrin's "Don't worry, be happy" is a piss take, of the religious right's attitude to real problems? A satirical admonition of American attitudes in the late 20th century, of greed is good, everything will be alright in the end, just be grateful you live in the greatest country in the world where if you must starve to death in the streets, at least they are nice streets; and the new age Bull shit that was sweeping the world, even the title of the song is a mockery of the mantra of Meher Baba the con man and self proclaimed god avatar in human form.

Allah is a name and thus a proper noun and so is capitalised. However god with a lower case "g" is a simple noun, describing a type of alleged entity, same as a unicorn and does not need to be capitalised. The Lord God (upper case g) is a specific reference to the Christian or Jewish god and is a title such as King (insert name here) and so is treated as a proper noun. The "one true God" whose true name should technically never be spoken as doing so is according to religitards is an act of sacrilege. Jews will not even write the word God for fear that to do so might be blasphemous and upset the big bad sky daddy and so write it G-d as if that made a fucks worth of difference. Most people in the west grew out of this shit decades ago, but not so in the middle east apparently. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R_hlMK7tCks

No it is the genuine belief that they are favoured by god as the chosen ones and so are superior people. They are indoctrinated from birth to believe this and are tolerated by modern Jews who like having a reminder of "the old days" around to point at and feel proud of while thanking their god that they personally don't have to live like that themselves. It is the same phenomena as rich Christian who used to hire a hermit to live in a cave on their land to show their piety, or Hindu kings who paid a holy man to live a life of paucity and self sacrifice by the gates of their palace.

@Davekp Sacrifice from the Latin sacrificus Combining sacra meaning "sacred rites" and facere "to make or to do" The correct word for a sacrifice of a living thing is an oblation again from the Latin Oblatus to flatten (as in what we today would call spatch-cocking) to make the burning easier. Today the word for a priest who did this an Oblate, is still used in the RC church only now to indicate one who prostrates themselves and their whole life before god. You may recall that in Genesis 4 Cain slew Abel because his sacrifice of fruit and grain was looked upon less favourably than that of his brother who presented a lamb

A sacrifice does not have to involve death, among some cultures pouring out the last mouth full of wine on the ground or burning a few seed grains as an offering to the gods is all that is required. Among some tribes of the indigenous plains people rituals were more likely to involve pain endurance rather than death.

Greed usually stems from an idea of being more worthy, more deserving or more favoured by a god, then those you are depriving, it is therefore usually justified by divine precedent and in some cases even caused by it.

@anglophone It is manifestly absurd, as is religion in general however Historically most emperors did not claim godhood, they claim to be an avatar of god on earth it is therefore basically were the early Christians got the idea of Jesus being a divine avatar of YHWH on earth hence the title King of Kings and the worship of a mangod.

@Pedrohbds "Catholicism supported Franco in Spain but opposed fascism in other lands." Incorrect, I am sorry to say Under the papacy of Pius XII the RCC supported fascism all over the world, especially it's racist and anti-Semitic policies. The church had concordats with all fascist nations and Pius XII even declared Hitler's Birthday a holy day. The Catholic church genuinely believed that Hitler would win and wanted to be the official state religion when they did. It was after all Pius XII who instituted the far ranging expansion of Papal infallibility so he could state ex cathedra that fascism was the will of god. A "fact" used in some countries even after WW2 to justify regimes such as Argentine president Juan Perón right up till the late 20th century. Even when European fascism was defeated and to this day the RCC has never excommunicated Hitler for his actions and deeds and remains in the annals of the RCC a Catholic in good standing, subject to the grace of Christ . In other words in the eyes of the church Hitler is in Heaven while all the Jews he burned are burning still in Hell.

LenHazell53 replies on Apr 29, 2021:
"Ultra nationalism, plagues, tyrannical dictatorships with military and intelligence resources, colonialism, industrialization of slave labor " All of these can be traced back to sources in "Holy Books" that advocate the idea of a chosen people, a master race or a blessed people favoured by a god, and that "lesser" races are there to be enslaved for the benefit of the godly. The Bible is one of the first pieces of writing to advocate the use of spies and espionage and the idea that god appoints monarchs as "His" will being enacted and like wise prophets to be his mouthpiece giving the word of gawd to the kings, thus intertwining church and state. Also though horrific idea that plagues and natural disasters are signs of gawd's displeasure and vengeance on people who sin against him. In short if something is being exploited for power and wealth you will find "biblical" precedent and justification for it.

Well guess what small number can mean huge amounts of PEOPLE, real PEOPLE with lives, families and titles like MOM, DAD, SON, DAUGHTER, GRAND PARENT, UNCLE and FRIEND. PEOPLE are not just statistics, when you learn that, maybe, just maybe you'll take this pandemic seriously and consider that just because it is not some sci-fi superbug that is going to end the world it is still a crisis.

When my son was born a midwife visited us to talk about contraception, she had with her allsorts of literature and samples and warning pamphlets. She asked my wife (2nd wife) had we even talked about this and I answered that yes we had and had decided that the safest option was condoms, for me. She was speechless and excused herself as she had not brought any, nor had she been told that by a wife let alone a man in twenty years as a practicing district nurse. She came back a day later and gave me a years supply with a big grin on her face, explaining they had plenty to spare and normally only gave them out free to prostitutes (of both sexes) because they were the only ones who asked for them..

Frieda Walter SS officer Famously she thrashed prisoners with a spade Helene Kopper SS officer Notorious camp police officer at Bergen-Belsen Elisabeth Volkenrath SS officer the head warden at Bergen-Belsen tried for crimes against humanity, Volkenrath enjoyed personally selecting prisoners for the gas chambers. Hildegard Lohbauer SS officer Began her "career" in Ravensbruck concentration camp Promoted to Bergen-Belsen she was put in charge of prisoner working parties who later gave evidence evidence she beat prisoners mercilessly Hilde Liesewitz SS officer At just 23, worked only a few months at Bergen-Belsen after being removed for brutality that was too much even for the SS Her crime was to have publically beaten two men close to death as punishment for taking a turnip. Gertrude Feist SS officer Gertrude Feist was known for her cruelty. Such as having forced a starving prisoner to kneel in the snow and eat straight from the ground. Ilse Forster SS officer Joins the SS at scarcely 17 She admitted beating male prisoners with a stick and killed a girl who had tried to steal food from the kitchen. Charged with war crimes and crimes against humanity, she was jailed for 10 years This was at one camp Bergen-Belsen, all of the camps had the contingent of "angels", specially recruited by the SS because apparently Himmler believed women had less bother with their conscience than did men.

Weather gods were almost completely male, the most famous of course being Thor, the only exceptions being again The goddess's of springtime (Oestara for example) who chases out the god of winter (Eg. As I pointed out, they often talked about Dutch Guernsey jumpers but that was a totally different garment to the heavy wool half patterned Ganzey. A Jersey or a Guernsey would as you say be used for Sunday wear, no one dream of wearing a Gansey to church, it was rough sweaty work wear. Maybe it's just local to the local area, where I live, to use the name like this.

@Marionville A ganzy gets its name from the Guernsey, but it is not the same thing, the word is Guernsey spoken in an east Cleveland/Teesside accent and was a favourite garment of Dockers, seamen, and fishermen in the Tees and Hartlepool area, sometimes as far north as Newcastle upon Tyne. The Ganzy or gansey rose to fame in the books of famous, or infamous, northern writer Catherine Cookson along with many other ear mangling northern idioms.
