How many US citizens will be dead or permanently incapacitated from C19 by November?

@RussRAB Such behaviour is known as the "No true Scotsman" logical fallacy, a form of circular argument, based on the addition of ad hoc "presuppositions" after the fact. eg Premise: All Scotsmen eat porridge Counter argument: Some Scotsmen do not eat porridge Fallacy: By not eating porridge they prove themselves to not be "true scotsmen" and are therefore do not invalidate the original premise.

@Lorajay @Lorajay "fetistic scopophillia" the act of carrying a metaphorical phallus like object in public in order to be seen as powerful and threatening. A technique often used in film and theatre to establish the main male or female protagonist upon their first appearance by metaphorically masculating them. See especially the films of Billy Wilder.

@altschmerz What amazes me is that under UK law this man was allowed to be a teacher of religious education, but had he been a Roman catholic he would have been barred from the profession in state schools, as it is illegal for "papists" to teach religious education, because it will corrupt children.

@altschmerz Unusually she actually and sincerely believed what she was teaching, so a genuine paradox for her was genuinely upsetting. She took a leave of absence for a while, the rumour was that she suffered a breakdown. She was replaced by a red haired and bearded Presbyterian Scott called Mr. McLeod, a name he pronounced MuClued! only person I ever met who could speak an exclamation mark. He was the very epitome of a "Holy Terror", a crack shot with a piece of chalk and never afraid to personally damn you to hell for being a clever dick sassenach heathen. I recall him locking away all of the KJV versions of the bible we normally used and proclaiming from the Geneva version, claiming the other translations were Papist and and english corrupted filth. I think he must have been wee Free church because according to this loon every one was going to Hell, and the quicker the better if he had anything to do with it. He did not last long after parents petitioned for his removal and the return of Mrs. Pettigrew.

@WonderWartHog99 back in those day of Dickens for the poor at least almost every offence was a capital crime. The Judgement of Death Act 1823 made the death penalty discretionary for **all** crimes except treason and murder for which it was mandatory. The only alternative was deportation to a penal colony unless you were rich or a freemason when it might be commuted to a small fine or restitution payments to the victim or service in the armed forces, but in most cases a rich person would simply be acquitted for one reason or another.

Burning someone in Hell for all eternity is definitely not a sign of unconditional love, or love of any kind, it is disproportionate, cruel and unusual *"severe punishment"*, if it can be called punishment at all, since the point of punitive measures are to correct and reform behaviour, if the punishment is eternal then that can never be the case and so is simply vengeful unending torture, for the sake of being cruel. I repeat this god is a dick, it is a mystery to me why people worship this fuck out of anything but fear.

LenHazell53 replies on May 6, 2020:
@altschmerz Yup the guy who wrote that article is simply parroting the Catholic church official line while claiming to be an atheist combatting "revisionist" history. The facts actually speak for themselves, if all of Cornwell's book is disregarded, Pius DID make a deal with both the German's and the British not to bomb Rome promising both that upon their inevitable victory God and the church would reward them. He did pursue and gain a Concordat with the Nazi government, He was photographed with and entertained many high ranking Nazi officials including allowing an ambassador from Nazi germany to live in the Vatican in his own apartments an honour not granted to any other countries ambassador. He did start and run a Vatican radio station (and Newspaper), which praised the Nazi's of Europe and promised the church's neutrality. After the allies moved troops into (now non Nazi) Italy for the final invasion, Pacelli (Pope) did write to Eisenhower pointing out that an "enlightened" man like the general would respect the papal request that no "Negro animal" soldiers be allowed in to Rome in the occupying forces as this would inevitably lead to cultural vandalism and a plague of rape in the holy city needless to say the request was made public and ignored. While at the same time he the pope was sheltering both the Nazi ambassador to Rome and the former nazi Ambassador to the Vatican inside the walls of the Vatican, under the law of sanctuary. Though it is true many Catholic priests and to a lesser extent some bishops and cardinals did help Jews, gypsies, Jehovah's Witnesses and homosexuals escape the persecution in acts of personal bravery and to their great person honour, many others adhered to the Vatican directive of non interference in Nazi policy, and in some cases such Clergy as did follow their conscience were either disciplined by the church or left to their fate at the hands of the Gestapo or SS. It is certainly true that most who did resist official church policy were after the war destined to serve in more lowly capacities for the rest of Pius's tenure are Pontiff, to teach them the import of obedience to the divine will. Speaking of which it is interesting that the oft spoken of Doctrine of papal infallibility, usually believed to have originated from the middle ages was actually an invention (or at least a massive corruption of existing doctrine) by Pius XII (A scholar of ecclesiastical law) used to consolidate his position and to prevent the conclave of cardinals over ruling some of his more excessive pronouncements, such as for example the biggest, most expensive and lavish Papal coronation ever seen, for his own inauguration, which included being pulled and pushed through the vatican on an 18 foot tall golden throne.

The pharaoh Amenhotep II (Akhenaten) was written out of history after the Armanah heresy, the priests erased his name and removed him from their history, his city Akatartan was allowed to sink in to the desert. Today we have rediscovered him, his history, his family and even his mummy. Likewise Richard the third was buried in disgrace in a paupers grave and given only a disgraced place in english history. Only a few years ago he was found, disinterred and buried with full royal honours in westminster cathedral. History is very hard to hide, especially from the curious historian.

that's because there is no such thing , there is the equator where all arbitrary points are at a 90 degee angle to the poles at all time. To have a fixed east and west pole the earth would have to stop rotating, or start rotating on an axis perpendicular to the one it uses now.

LenHazell53 replies on Apr 27, 2020:
@barjoe Oh dear, I will try this one more time. It is quite simple, an opinion is a belief, a belief without evidence is a superstition, an act of faith or a lie stemming from stubbornness, misinformation or deceit. There is no opinion that that can be logically held without verification, unless there is the intent to promote one of the above. When you say *"Sometimes we don't have all the facts. Does that mean we can't form opinions? "* the answer is a resounding **NO you cannot form an opinion,** under such circumstances, what you can do is ***"Speculate"*** a speculation is not an opinion, it is the beginnings of an hypothesis, for that idea or speculation to progress evidence, testing and attempts at falsification MUST follow, or else you are demanding a leap of faith, and faith by it's very nature is an act of superstition, religion or a lie.

I think you are just that sort of person , who is looking to make his normal insignificant little life seem important t himself by adopting an "intellectual" position that puts him at odds with everyone else, avoids actual intellectual discussion with actual academics who might point out what they really are and instead keep a score sheet of "victories" on the wall of there bedroom in there mums house so they can feel they have enough self worth to masturabate themselves to sleep at night having "achieved" something on that day.

@Word Atheism/Atheist comes from the Greek *atheos* theos meaning God and a- meaning without, lacking or not, very much depending on context of use . Therefore Atheist/atheism CANNOT be directly translated back from the Greek because it is not a Greek word, it is an appropriation of the Greek inference in to English. This being the case it must be taken in light of the original intent and in all etymological investigations of the prefix a- in this case and context means "without" If as stated in this frankly ill informed article it is to be assumed to mean *not* the word becomes contextually illogical since to express the sentiment not god you would use the terms ochi or den rather than a- to achieve the sentiment expressed in the article.
