LenHazell53 replies on Dec 6, 2021:
Well it should be simple enough, an authorised government employee such as a police officer or soldier who is acting within defined boundaries and parameters designed to save lives. I heard someone once say that the Charles Darwin's reference to 'survival of the fittest' was misappropriated by Herbert Spencer and 19th Century Liberal Economists. They used it to cloak and justify what would have otherwise been deemed reprehensible economic practices.
LenHazell53 replies on Dec 5, 2021:
Herbert Spencer did not misappropriate the phrase he invented "survival of the fittest" for his own works on the parallels between evolution and economics in 1864, because he did not think natural selection sounded aggressive enough. Darwin never used the term prior to this, though Darwin did quote it in "The Variation of Animals and Plants Under Domestication" published in 1868 describing its use as being "as clear as daylight". However, Alfred Russel Wallace as an editor replaced natural selection with Survival of the fittest in posthumous editions of "origin of the species"

@Lorajay As someone who was spousal abuse for five and a half years by a nightmare wife, and who consequently met in support groups many other men who had been or were still trapped in the same horror, I respectfully disagree. Women can be just as dangerous, violent and sexually predatory as men. However, it is rarely reported and almost never talked about, because it is not supposed to happen to men, and if it does, it is not talked about because it is a matter of shame and reflects "badly" on all men. A woman who is abused by a man can expect these days to be believed, and given support and empathy, not so men. Men beaten by women are not reported because (as happened to me when I did report it to the police), the police laughed and mocked that "a man" could be assaulted by a "girl" but I was then warned not to fight back because that WOULD be assault. Like wise, emotional or verbal abuse is not talked about because, you the man are pathetic because you can't keep your "bitch" in order. A man sexually assaulted by women is not SUPPOSED to object, because he is a "Lucky bastard" and should "enjoy it" Sexual harassment of men at work again is supposed to enjoyed by "real men" and in retail where I worked most of my life, women outnumber men 4 to one almost all supervisors and assistant, actual and district manager are women. Not all sexual harassment happens at corporate level or in the entertainment business, that just makes for "good" headlines. Just to reiterate my point, ALL PEOPLE of what ever sex or gender are capable of being obnoxious when give a bit of power if they are that way inclined, not just "toxic men!".

What do you mean? Creation and evolution are two different things. I think it's possible the universe has always been here, in an eternal cycle of expansion and contraction. It's called the Big Bounce.

@Gwendolyn2018 Quite right Parallel is a misnomer in the many worlds' theory in string theory, though the word does actually fit, the mathematical and geometrical connotations lead to confusion. Para-universal or para-typical universes would be more appropriate, perhaps. On the subject of "the Big Bounce" it is my opinion that there need never have been a "first" instance of a universe since "time" and hence cause and effect, are an in-universe phenomenon and combined with that the idea that since "nothing" is only a conceptual word describing an absence (in the same sense that cold and dark are) and for nothing to be something would be self cancelling ALL possible universes are existent concurrently not consecutively.

@Flowerwall If you need to ask questions like that, your perception of reality has been warped. I live in the UK, a society that on the whole loathes gun culture BECAUSE we have seen what it has done to your country. Do you not know the social state of your country is pitied by every other country on earth who does not actively loath your way of life? The answer to a criminal with a gun is not a citizen with a gun. The answer to a siege with a gunman is not "a wild west shoot out" this is real life not a game, or a film. Look at how things are handled else where in the world and then perhaps you may see why you have on average 1.5 mass shootings EVERY DAY when we have has three in the past thirty years. What is the difference between us and you? What is the common denominator in all your tragic mass killings. Guns and the social obsession with guns, devices meant for nothing, and good for nothing except KILLING

@anglophone There is no morality in burning books. Once you start to exercise and preach a judgement that any book should be censored, removed or burned, you are basically saying all books are up for censorial judgement if any one person objects to any one of them. Books are the nearest thing to telepathy that we have, a medium for the transmission of thoughts and ideas. If you burn a book you are trying to burn an idea. I would hope those who have found their way to this site are better than that, and not willing to sink to the depths of excremental thinking as the book burners wallow in.

@Ray13 It was a widely covered popular song. Glenn Miller was unique in that his lead instrument was the Clarenette, with the brass providing the bass line (Miller himself was a trombonist). During 1944 Miller and his band were touring Europe, and in December of that year Miller disappeared while Flying to the Free French Republic. Or that was the story until the mid-naughties, when the truth was revealed that Commander Miller did indeed make it to France but had a heart attack in a French brothel and died. This of course was covered up for the reputation of both the band and the American military.

@Charles1971 I was not being rude, simply stating a fact, you have no idea what you are talking about, you have never read Sax Rohmer's novels or else you did not understand them, or you would not insult his characters, his writing and his personality like that. Rohmer's Fu Manchu (An assumed title not a name meaning of the Valorous Manchu) was a Chinese patriot, fiercely anti-communist and saw the British as the destroyers of his culture thanks to their opium wars and his own addiction from opium forced on him as a child. He was highly educated, held three PhDs and was a self-made millionaire. Oh, and he did not have a moustache, that detail was added in by Boris Karloff. Very stereotypical Asian SO demeaning to Asian Americans, including I assume the FBI agent assigned to stop him an American Asian name Tony McKay (Father Scots American Mother Chinese American) If 1971 is your birthdate you never read the comics when they first appeared in 1973, I did, so I know the character and the character of the Mandarin first appeared in 1964 so was a well established character by the time I began collecting at age 6. True Marvel lost the copy write to Fu-Manchu in the 1970s and so stopped using the name but continued to use an unnamed "Father", Harry Towers bought up all the Media rights for his terrible films (and his family still owns them today) which have ruined the reputation of character and author alike. Disney however could have bought them back without even thinking about it. So I unashamedly repeat "For a moment I thought you knew what you were talking about," you obviously don't. I will accept, but do not expect, an apology for calling me a jerk, because again you did not understand what I was talking about. That of course presumes you have dignity and good manners, I apologise if you do not.

@rainmanjr I think some of the problem is that sometimes the obviously fictional becomes so important in peoples lives they begin to feel it is actually real. When it becomes dangerous because that attitude leads to obsessiveness and even "faith" and that is the point when people start getting threatened with death or are even killed. This is why I personally feel it is important to catch this sort of thing and call it out for what it is at the earliest possible opportunity, and often that is in the comment section.

@Marionville Patricia Cornwell, the American thriller writer, wrote a book entitled "Portrait of a killer" in 2002, purporting to be "faction" (i.e. a fictionalised documentary) "proving" that Walter Sickert was the ripper. The publication cause an uproar when it was discovered that Cornwell had purchased "Jack the Ripper's Bedroom" and vandalised it in an effort to gain Sickert's DNA in order to compare it with blood and Semen found on a scarf that was believed to belong to Catherine Eddows the fourth Ripper victim. An effort that ultimately proved fruitless. However, Sickert was hired by the Royal family to 'Tutor' Prince Albert Victor, Duke of Clarence in fine arts. What this involved was never quite established, as some "well-meaning" friends of Sickert tipped off the police that the house next door to Sickert's Studio at 15 Cleveland Street was actually a homosexual brothel (no. 19 number 17 had been destroyed). The Police raided the Brothel and found neither the artist nor the prince there, but did discover a secret pathway leading out of the back of the Cleveland Street establishment, across a 486-foot patch of wasteland and in to the back door of No 17 Fitzroy Street, London a notorious building in The Victorian capital, as it was the Isis-Urania temple of the Hermetic order of the Golden Dawn, an exclusive black magic club frequented by the elite members of society, including Commissioner of Police sir Charles Warren, one Walter Sickert and the Prince of Wales. Apparently it was less shameful to be seen entering a Male Brothel than a Pagan Temple in the 1880s.
