At my age, of course. One time I went on a "fly in fishing" trip in Canada by myself. I was alone in a cabin on a lake, and didn't see or talk to another human for a week. I did talk to the squirrels and one moose. I tried to talk to the fish but they were mad at me. I found it refreshing and never got lonely.

Mine was years ago when I was doing my teaching internship. I had strattled a school desk in front of a female high school student. I did this so I would be seated and facing her to help her with her school work. The crotch of my pants completely ripped out. Luckily I was wearing underwear. The teacher had me go to the school nurse who sewed my pants up so I could get through the day.

When my daughter was nine (so, tens years ago) we moved back to Alabama.

I've been there. Most of us have been there. I think we often fall in that trap when we think the other person will make us feel better about ourselves. If they only loved us back we would have more worth. Then when they don't love us back we feel we have no worth. I'll take it a step further and say if we did win over their hearts, it would only be a matter of time until our boosted self esteem went back down. I'm not an expert on love, but pretty sure authentic love is reciprocal, everything else is just an illusion, even if it feels so real.

My mentor in life was my psychology teacher in high school. I would journal and he would comment on my writings. I would look forward to his responses. Sometimes we would talk after school. He got me started on meditation through visualization. I was a lost puppy in those days. I'm not sure I would have made it without him. Later in college I had a gentle soul I saw for counseling. He wasn't as big an influence but kept me going. These two men solidified my desire to be a therapist, so yes I'm doing what I've wanted to do since I was a teen. It is much more than just a job. Am I good at it? Depends who you ask. Hopefully I'm half as good as the gentlemen mentioned above.
