@Zealandia that or was already consuming the same poison. A dose of arsenic building up the dosage each month I think gives a certain tolerance.
I remember once reading of how they once did this with Irish girls who they would then introduce to a local rival chief who when exchanging body fluids with the lass would die of whatever poison she was full of.
So you just bury your nose in the story.
Yes, the plot is a bit ruff, but gives paws for thought at times.
