Georgia's Republican Candidate for Governor is Blocking 53,000 Voter Registrations, 70% Black

The Santa myth is more evil and destructive than most believe. It helps fuel anxiety and anger and unneeded want and worst of all guilt for being impoverished, especially the millions who are there by no fault of their own. The Dutch Santa is a great example: he has black slaves who kidnap "bad" little boys and girls, then torture them. How sweet. Here is an idea for a bedtime story: a cannibal, atheist Santa who brings gifts of candies, chocolates, and other sweets to hood little non believers; then, for those children who pray at night (And Santa is all knowing) this Santa could prey on them, eating all or parts as he judges how self pious their parents have made them.

BREAKING: Chief SCOTUS Justice Orders New Kavanaugh Investigation
Beowulfsfriend comments on Oct 10, 2018:
Saw that. I wouldn't expect too much. The scope only concerns what he said during the hearings, although certain points can easily be shown to be false, ie drinking age in Maryland. At 53, he never could drink under 21. My nephew is 56/57 and at 19 could just barely drink beer there (I had returned from the Navy and I remember). The yearly age was increasing from 18 to 21 to comply with the feds to get money for road building and repair.

Bukowski was a genius. In his later years he complained about people he didn't know showing up at his place with beer or liqueur expecting him, as an old man, to sit around and get drunk with them and tell stories. When, and if, he answered the door he apparently wasn't very pleasant. Personally, I think anyone who believes a well known, old man, poet is going to drink with a stranger just because said person read his work is deluded.
It amazes me how much credit Trump gets for this economy while no one mentions the record setting ...
Beowulfsfriend comments on Oct 10, 2018:
Many economists know the truth and predict a recession because of his actions. Only the one percent have benefited from his moves. Note the new NAFTA he flouts: helps big Pharma; and industrial farms; and while ensuring that Mexican auto workers get an excellent wage increase (sold as jobs will stay here) the same rule allows stagnant wages in the Southern states where cars are built. A guarantee of 16.50 an hour for Auto workers with no unions.

So called christian people are the least jesus like people usually. Year's back I called a Christian school to complain about an older student bullying my younger son. I requested the parents call me. The father did. He seemed to think there was nothing wrong and his son had endured similar things and everything should be dropped no matter how logical my argument was. So, I sunk to his level, which, at first, seemed to over joy him. I said fine, we will do it your way. After a short pause, I added that I didn't want him calling back if my younger son's older brother stepped in and got involved. Amazing how quickly he stuttered that things would be different; and they were, much to my older son's chagrin when he heard he may be given permission to fully protect his younger sibling.

An element of truth, in that most early cultures had less degrees of punishment, thus forgiveness for smaller crimes, along with apologies and compensation did exist. Too difficult long ago to lock up someone for long periods of time and a strain on resources and death penalties indiscriminately used could reduce population. However, how many people would exchange current day-to-day items like longer life, better health (mostly), etc. to gain what?: required religion; required obedience; required responsibility - hmm, that might be a good thing.

In the book Things Fall Apart, set in Nigeria during early British colonization, one character explains, quite well, to the minister how their two religions are so alike, yet the white conqueror refuses to see what is right in front of his face. The real darkness is in men's refusal to see what is real. For christians and other religious types, they believe they know innately what is real and refuse to see anything else, lumping all into their darkness.

Beowulfsfriend comments on Oct 5, 2018:
It is all in the degrees of wrong doing, the taking of responsibility and making amends, and an honest change (as opposed to the Jim Baker's crying crying appeal to Jesus). In Louis's case, he is no Bill Cosby or even Donald Trump, and has appeared to be genuinely sorry, and not just for repairing his own image, so I would say that he should be given a second shot, with caution. I say this with limited information and in not being a huge fan; I find his humor okay, but respect some of the people he has written for more in their delivery. I am sure this thought is now exasperated by the Kavanaugh "case" we are witnessing; which, to me, has again shown the hypocrisy of evangelicals and the right (as a side note, of course i cant say with a hundred percent certainty anything of his guilt, and inly judge him from his statements, thus I will refrain from making a call on that guilt or not, I will say he is absolutely unqualified because of his political attacks on those who oppose him and his claim of a "left wing" conspiracy and because he straight out lied about his legality to drink at 18 in Maryland. The law had changed by then. He is 53; my nephew is 56. When I got out of the Navy, my nephew was just barely legal at 19 in Maryland as the age was increasing in yearly increments). Off topic, i know, sorry.

Interesting how we allow our government to control our thoughts on other peoples. As a matter of course, in the Navy, I studied and spied on the North Koreans. The people are brainwashed, but not too hateful, as they would welcome peace. They are now officially Juche, and not communist. That means a Kim, descended from the Unicorn dynasty must rule. Do Americans feel guilty about their history?
Beowulfsfriend comments on Sep 28, 2018:
Guilty? Eh. No more than any other empire. Sure the US treated many people shitty. The U.S. inherited religious fanatics; the idea of white supremacy - slavery and decimation of Native Americans and the idea of Manifest destiny. That said, we are no worse than numerous kings and world leaders who over the centuries have raped and pillaged the Earth and its population and resources. I am more afraid of our failing state and how we cling to be number one while so many suffer here and around the world. We are officially 27th in education and lower in health care. For a supposed great nation we just aren't. And a growing gap in wealth disproportion will only make things worse. Things here are worsening because we no longer want to admit our past failures and mistakes which is a dangerous road to go down. So, just what am I Saying? I believe that humanity in general has a lot to feel guilty for. War; atrocities; disproportionate rights and freedoms; mistreatment of others; lack of basic necessities; etc. And, yes, religion has played a paramount role throughout time.
Guys ask why women are so pissed off.
Beowulfsfriend comments on Sep 28, 2018:
That is very true. Men without having things pointed out have for very long been trained by both parents how to live and react in society (this goes for most of the world). I remember studying linguistics and seeing the evidence of sexist language in the English language alone to whit showing there are more derogatory terms to describe females than males. These thoughts and actions are one of the reasons that I, in high school, predicted a black male President of the United States before a woman. Note black men got the vote (at least legally) in 1868 while women here did not until 1920. I grew up in a rural, very religious and Christian oriented farming area. Many there haven't changed much over the years. I got thrown out of class, even before school stared one day for insulting Billy Graham by insinuating he was a drunk who sold an Elixer named Christ. Such fun times to have been liberal minded. Mostly I got thrown out for arguing with the teacher, whose father was an evangelical minister (who also happened to run a notoriously poorly operated old folks home, now called senior centers), over how I didn't believe I had to "watch it" because I didn't believe her god was going to get me.

How many of the men misspoke? Personally I don't and never did care for strip clubs. But I've been in them. The place I found most sexy ever was an Afghan bar which had belly dancers. Fully clothed, but cool.

He definitely stumbled over trying to say I welcome an investigation and not asking for one. He instead did things like attack the "left wing conspirators" out to get him. That in itself should disqualify him as he has shown he is not an unbiased justice.

What's the most amusing encounter you've had with a religious person?
Beowulfsfriend comments on Sep 27, 2018:
I would say almost anytime the Jehovah's Witnesses stop by. (I must add that since putting a plastic Spiderman on my door window, none have knocked. Pretty sure my new addition of a Buddha head by the door outside won't win any over either.) Anyway, I tried, always, to be polite....... I would say if I went to "church" it was the nearby Unitarian. To which they would always ask: what is that. And I would start a history lesson with them starting as non Trinitarians and suddenly the JW's were like we are long lost cousins. Uh, no.
A Natural Afterlife?
Beowulfsfriend comments on Sep 27, 2018:
I am not so sure it is a pure universal. Most definitely the majority of societies and those with written records, but at what point. Studies on indigenous peoples who have had little to no contact with the outside world and haven't developed past the stone tool age mostly indicate no thoughts on death or after life beyond just darkness. As a side note: when asked about death, the gorilla Koko said, reluctantly, that it was darkness and refused to "talk" about it.

There is a difference between emotional thinking and logical reasoning. Emotionally, I would agree that there are people out there who the world would be better off without. That said, the death penalty does not deter crime and cost more money to impose due to the needed automatic appeals that some want to get rid of (And even with those appeals innocent people still get executed). I, also, question the idea: Do we as a nation want our government killing its citizens?

If there was a Jesus, he may have been modeled on an ancient Egyptian god, or others of a similar ilk. So, the bird fits well.

I, too, read that. They also are choosing to have less children. There may be a more sinister reason behind this as well: they are one of the poorest, even if better educated generations, in many years, so becoming a team is a way to better survive.

My daughter, raised as an agnostic Unitarian, went to La Salle her Freshman year ( Jesuit Catholic) and had an intro religion class. I mention the school's name because it has a pretty good academic status. Anyway, the prof said something to the tune that she didn't think everyone in the class was Catholic but still Christian, right? To which my daughter raised her hand. The prof had never heard of Unitarians (Just because they controlled Harvard and made up many of the founding fathers - take that evangelicals with no brain). So my daughter explained; she got an "A"
