Kudos for the judge. A lot of judges don't like pedophiles - not enough. The school I worked at had two teachers who were partners get caught- 5 male students. They didnt immediately plead guilty and it appeared that they were going to force a trial. The D.A. had given them an offer. Anyway, on their day one in front of the judge, in civis because they were on bail, they threw themselves at the mercy of the court. The Judge have them 3 to 5 years more than the DA's offer. It was still, in my mind, not a big sentence (one guy got 5, took all the required classes and got out in 3; the other guy got 10 and served the whole 10 because he wouldn't admit that he did anything wrong).

Advocates fear Barrett will strip away gay rights. It could begin next week.

Not a 100 percent sure that my next statement is still true, but, some states still do not see rape as possible during a marriage (or in some cases, living together). That all said, not much is done if the woman is an abuser either - this, I feel, is because men are then seen as not "manly" enough. AND, most religion oks it, or outright encourages it.
