The west generally judges a nation's international standing in light of its enemies. Putin is monster, always has been, a dictator in all but official proclamation. However had China attacked Russia, instead of Russia attacking Ukraine, the billions of dollars being funneled in to Ukraine would instead be going in to the coffers of avuncular Uncle Vlad, who would in the media of the west be undergoing a massive character make over. The West will ALWAYS pretended that "the enemy of my enemy is my friend", until (again as in the school yard) that friend asks you to actually step in and fight along side of them, at which point the west will assure them "Hey I'll hold your coat, I'll lend you my knuckleduster, but that is where I draw the line old bean. Fight your own battles!" All capitalist cultures need a boogie man, a scapegoat on which to blame all the shit visited on "The People" by their corruption and pocket lining. It was the USSR, then it was the Terrorist Muslims, then it was the Iraqis, then immigrant terrorist Muslims, then Immigrants generally, then the LEFT, the woke Left, Socialists, then the far right (bit close to home that one) and so finally back round full circle to the Russians again (Nostalgia value) I sometimes wonder if at this time there is a little nominative determinism going on, if you wanted to create an eastern warlord what is a better name that mixing up the names of the only two eastern block villains most people in the west have heard of Dracula (***Vlad***islaus Tepes) and Grigori ilitch Ras***putin***, Alucard Mc Satan-Monk might have been a little too on the nose, so why not just ***Vlad Putin***
Absolutely! Good Morning all 😊

LenHazell53 comments on May 20, 2022:
Who wants to live in a totalitarian world? A frighteningly large minority of conformists who are too frightened to think for themselves, and would rather self abnegate all responsibility for their own lives to the one with the loudest voice. Such people's freedom can be bought for the price of the promise to give them someone to blame and oppress, a set of unbreakable rules and the right to act on their base instincts. For such freedoms this sort of people people will follow a charismatic war monger to hell and thank him or her for the privilege. If you hear someone in authority telling you "If you have nothing to hide you have nothing to fear" "Trust your leaders, they know what is best for you" "Might makes right" "The strong must lead, it is the natural order of things" "individuality is weakness conformity is strength" "Strength Through Unity, Unity Through Faith" "The "Will of The People" must prevail over the will of any number of people" "One Party, one country, one law and order will follow" "Freedom is not free, it must be imposed, and protected by force and subterfuge" "Truth is subjective" "Do not deliberately over educate yourself it will make you unhappy" "Know your place and be content with it." and other such sound bites, you are already lost.

I find it very difficult to love some one like that. **Christy: ** (exiting hastily) Well no one said it was going to be easy!

As back in the 1930s we are going through a period of the public of all countries submitting to populist leaders in a fit of tragically dangerous nostalgia for the days of strong man leaders, to whom nationalism was more important that patriotism because it catered to the insane idea of superior races (races here used in the original meaning of the word nationalities, not the fucking idiotic American and German fascist use of the word as a euphemism for ethnicity.) When these period grip the public consciousness rules of reason and logic go out of the window and the world reverts to the doctrine of the school yard. *Might makes right Them and us Control of speech, behaviour, information and above all THOUGHT so if anyone dares stand up to you REMEMBER The guy with the biggest gang always wins* This is why Vlad (raspy) Putin HAD no choice but to try and give uppity Ukraine a bloody nose before it got in to a bigger gang than his own. Ukraine of course COULD have backed down and promised not to join the NATO gang and not got punched, but would have been called a chicken, would have lost face and basically would have felt they had to kick the shins of someone who "Took the piss" out of them. To carry the analogy to it's natural conclusion sooner or later there will be a big punch up, lots of people will get bloody and bruised but the two big gang leaders will be found hiding behind the bike shed sharing a crafty cigarette and deciding they are quite good mates after all. Until the next time.

Back in the 1980 I worked in Middlesbrough, which then boasted one of the first "Distressed" clothing stores (Psyche) it is still there today and is now part of a huge chain. A colleague of mine (Steven with a V) returned from his lunch with two pairs of Psyche distressed Jeans, that were clearly second hand, washed out and full of holes. He started showing on the first pair and boasting they had only cost him £75 (A fortune in 1984 for clothes) to much amazement and gasps from the rest of us. Not understanding our exasperation he pulled out the second pair of even more dilapidated rags and announced that these ones had cost him £90. I could not help but ask why the second pair were so much more expensive, and with no sense of irony at all he told me it was because the holes in the second pair were bigger! No wonder the Psyche company went from strength to strength so quickly, some people will by any old crap for a designer name.

The U.S. government authorised over 1,500 wars, attacks and raids on Indians, the most of any country in the world against its Indigenous people. By the close of the Indian Wars in the late 19th century, fewer than 238,000 Indigenous people remained, a sharp decline from the estimated 5 million to 15 million living in North America when Columbus arrived in 1492. It is estimated that during the initial Spanish conquest of the Americas up to eight million indigenous people died, primarily through the spread of Afro-Eurasian diseases, in a series of events that have been described as the first large-scale act of genocide of the modern era. How many Native Americans died on the General Winfield Scott Trail of Tears? According to estimates based on tribal and military records, approximately 100,000 Indigenous people were forced from their homes during the Trail of Tears, and some 15,000 died during their relocation. The lists of massacres, poisonings, deliberate infections and murders for land or profit goes on almost ad-nausium and yet even today the indigenous peoples of the US, Canada and Hawaii are denied any real or appropriate form of justice or recommence

Who told you that load of old crap. In Islam and in Judaism abortion is absolutely forbidden. My ancestry on my paternal grandmother's side is Jewish and I grew up with a suni Muslim best friend to whose family I was very close. If you mean there is no mention of abortion in the Torah or the Koran then you are probably right, but there is no mention of it in the bible either. It is a matter of theological doctrine and so called revealed wisdom. The one religion that does have a scriptural stance on abortion that is not entirely negative is Hinduism which allows it under the same same scriptures that allow the taking of a human life under extreme circumstance. Zoroastrianism has scriptures that specifically mention that terminating a pregnancy by artificial means is a crime ( though this is aimed more at men trying to induce a miscarriage in their wives, it is now seen as applying to medical abortion too). So I disagree, religion as a whole is pro-life ad antiabortion because as the RCs say "God must not be denied souls" and the religions must not be denied those souls tithing unto them!

LenHazell53 comments on May 3, 2022:
Saturnian and saturnine are basically antonyms of one another Saturnian derives from the Latin adjective Sāturnius meaning “of Saturn.” The mythological God not the planet, a Titan and a god of agriculture. The positive aspects of Saturn’s reign are referred to as the “golden age,” This is what give Saturnian its positive meaning. Saturnine means "born under the influence of the planet Saturn," Saturn was in the middle ages the Planet known to be furthest from the sun and thus astrologically represents coldness, gloominess and sorrowful.

Viktor Orban DID condemn the Russian attack on Ukraine, BUT refused to supply aid or weapons to Ukraine and closed Hungry's borders and airspace to ALL countries doing so claiming that actively aiding Ukraine was an act of hostility toward Russia. He has Also publicly assured Putin of his countries non cooperation with NATO and his intent to veto the admission Ukraine to the organisation. On the other hand Hungry does have an historical claim on parts of Ukrainian territory but have never pursued the claim and have never asked Russia to help them regain them, in spite of the Ukrainian claim that they have done so.
A little romper sidewalk distraction. :)

NONCE.
LenHazell53 comments on May 2, 2022:
It has been suggested that Nonce (in the sexual connotation) is a variation on Ponce, which comes from Normandic French Slang *L'Alphonse* meaning the (Male/homosexual) owner of a Brothel (as opposed to a Madame) or the procurer of "young" prostitutes of both sexes for the military. It dates back at least to the Norman Conquest and is probably the root of Pimp along with the other French word *Pimpant* one who dresses in sexually alluring clothing .

The word whore is a nasty derogatory term used only by envious or jealous shit for brains people, who no one wants to sleep with, about those who either enjoy sex and/or are so talented in the carnal arts that other people are willing to pay them for it.

LenHazell53 comments on May 1, 2022:
Alternately the unhappy person resents it when you try to cheer them up, because it means they just want you to STFU and have no interest in or compassion for the reasons for unhappiness, or in leaving you alone until you can deal with it. Claiming unhappiness is self indulgence is akin to saying the only reason a person has not learned drive a car is because they want someone else to notice and give them a lift. As a life long sufferer of bi-polar disorder (or manic depression as it was called when I was diagnosed), who has been continually told "Smile it may never happen" and my father's favourite "Cheer up you miserable bastard or I'm going to hit you." I speak from some experience.

Matthew 6:5 And when thou prayest, thou shalt not be as the hypocrites are: for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets, that they may be seen of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward. Amazing how many "Christians" have never read their own book of twaddle

One of Celeste Holm's most famous parts is the infamous Addie Ross in both versions of A Letter to 3 Wives 1949 and 1985. Though the character is never seen in neither version the terrible Addie steals the film out from under all the other characters, with her snide and bitchy comments

I left Twit-stir years ago and no intentions of going back no matter who owns it. Musk has no intention of promoting free speech, his aims are obvious, PR, adversing, polling and information gathering. In a relatively short time and definitely in the long owning Twaddler is going to be a profitable enterprise for him (he would not do it otherwise.)
