Well, duh. They are in the majority and have the backing of all kinds of social institutions, including the government, so no wonder they feel superior and arrogant, feeling that their bigotry and bias is justified. Any minority group in a society is inclined to behave deferentially or respectfully towards the majority group in order to avoid conflict and negative consequences from the majority group. It's the same reason black folks never made trouble in my small, lily white Iowa town where I grew up. As one of the few blacks told me, " It's not that we're happy with how things are, it's just that we're so outnumbered and powerless, that there's no point in making trouble or raising a fuss, because they would just crush us"...

We seemed, at least for a while, to fix the problem of school segregation by race, but we never did by class. It's very interesting to see how this post has provoked a very good discussion, much better than usual lately on the subject of dating, and even brought in some people I have argued with passionately recently, without doing so here, as well as some people I have blocked or been blocked by long ago. It would be nice if this happened more often. Damn, there I go breaking my habit and being an optimistic for once. Hope I'm right about the positive change of pace.

TomMcGiverin comments on Aug 22, 2022:
I would gladly trade the knife problem there for our gun problem here. At least they don't have the frequent mass killings like here. And it's impossible to kill two dozen people in a matter of a few minutes with a knife, or in any short amount of time, unless all the victims are trapped with the killer and can't escape. Very unlikely still, since several of them could easily rush and overpower the killer.

Who knows? Obviously they are not aware of how many women on dating sites are not interested in men who have hunting and fishing as their main interests, but of course there are exceptions and it may vary drastically based on which area dating pool you are talking about for that site. For example, the OP lives in the Chicago area, very urban compared to where I live, which is a much smaller metro area, and the vast majority of women in my local dating pool grew up in rural areas, where hunting and fishing are very popular with men, as well as fishing being popular with a lot of women in my local dating pool. I esp. see this with women who never went past high school for education and are probably working class or working poor for their economic class. Hunting and fishing are popular among rural men, as well as lower income folks, because it provides free or extra food, and is a low cost form of recreation as well, same as camping, also popular with most women in my dating pool, esp. the ones with lower education levels and financial levels. Or the men may be aware of how this comes across to women like the OP, but simply don't care, because she is not the kind of woman they want anyway. They want someone who grew up in a rural area and a working class or lower income family that is more likely to share their interests, culture, education level, etc. The OP appears to be more of an college-educated, higher income level city slicker, not their type to begin with, so why would they give a fuck what her kind thinks about the fish pic?

As to the point of the video, the pursuit of the wolf, or in this case, the insurrectionists, including the people at the top that plotted it, means nothing unless all or at least most of the plotters, as well as the followers, are punished severely for it, not just investigated and charged.. TomMcGiverin comments on Aug 18, 2022:
The 62% stat sure seems correct to me, as I have tested my local dating pool on Match by making up a dummy female profile with similar traits to mine, and then doing a search on the site. I found that there were two to three men on the site for every woman on the site in my age group and local area. Way too much competition for most men to have a chance of finding a compatible and acceptable partner. And most of the women on dating sites know this, so they are raising their standards, often to ridiculous levels, since they can do so and still get tons of interest, since they have the pick of the litter. And a man can be emotionally healthy as all get out, as well have great relationship skills and reasonable standards for women they date, but it will make no difference if his looks are not competitive with the other men in his online dating pool and the women in his dating pool prefer men with more money than him as well. I think the loneliness and unhappiness of both men and women in the online dating game is related to unrealistic expectations on the part of both genders, but in the case of men, it is the greater competition they face as well as the likely fact that in the age groups over 50, women are usually way more ambivalent than men about finding a partner and that probably explains why many women, way more than men, choose to drop out of the dating game or give up rather than keep trying to find a partner. Thus, way more men remain in the dating game than women in the over 50 age groups and that is never likely to change. Which may mean, that my only hope is to wait it out, until most of my male age cohorts in the local dating pool die off, and then be able to finally have a more level gender ratio of men to women on dating sites. But I'm really not interested in waiting another ten years and going it alone until then. If my late wife hadn't developed dementia, even tho she was much older than me, I would still probably be happily married and with her for another five years from now, instead of having become widowed five years ago. And wouldn't have been facing this online dating shit like I have been for the last few years. So yeah, life sure as fuck isn't fair...

TomMcGiverin comments on Aug 16, 2022:
I wouldn't count on it. Once people leave this site, it's usually for good, since they realize that local dating options don't exist, and they usually come here, at least initially, for dating. If they don't decide to stay, after that, for the community, they aren't coming back. I suggest you stick with the regular dating sites and give up on ever meeting anyone to date from Agnostic.com. I hope you run across her on a conventional dating site.

TomMcGiverin comments on Aug 16, 2022:
I've been there. You ran across one of many game-playing singles on the dating sites. I'm sure there are men doing the same thing. Lots of game players are good at coming off as sincere, honest people in their profiles and messaging, until the moment of truth comes where they either want to meet you or not. Personally, I wouldn't have seen the encounter as awkward and would have just told her off if she dared to come near me or try to talk to me there. But I love confrontation, you may differ from me on that. I like to shock people like her who expect I will be too embarrassed at their rejection of me to confront them.

I don't always agree with Maher, but I usually do when he criticizes cases of PC running amok, because it really does get out of hand a lot these days. And when it does, it becomes way too much of a useful distraction for the corporate media and the Dem Party to take away all attention and energy from the class warfare constantly going on against the 99% and leaves no room for the 99% to notice and think about fighting back against the 1%. It lets the Dem Party off the hook for selling us out and seduces voters into thinking the Dems really are on our side and are actually doing something on our behalf, when the reality is they really don't give a shit and are just posturing for the voters because an election is coming up.

As long as most voters remain ignorant of these things, we will continue to get the same economic policies from both major parties, and the 1% will continue to rob us, with the class war going in one direction only and being fought by just one side.

TomMcGiverin comments on Aug 10, 2022:
Well, one thing that was really bad and frustrating before the net, was weekly listings for karaoke (my main hobby) and live music, another big interest of mine. We had to depend on posted fliers for live band concerts, or else depend on the local newspaper's weekly entertainment section, which came out each Wed. or Thur., can't remember which. And the listings for either one, karaoke or live bands, were notoriously inaccurate or out of date, because the newspaper depended on the bar owner, not the entertainment provider, to update or correct the listings. And the bar owners often didn't care much about doing that or keeping their listings up to date or accurate. So, a lot like today, you needed to call the venue and confirm the event before going to it that date. But now, with FB and the net, you can look up info on the event up to the last minute, for cancellations or changes, which are usually posted promptly and accurately. And that is way better than the old days, when you had no choice but to call the venue for info about an event, and never get anyone on the phone, even if they were open at the time, or worse, play phone tag trying to get a call back from them if you couldn't call when they were open for business.

I will comment anyway, and if you don't like it, you can shove it. I assume you are talking about me, as well as other men, and you are one arrogant ass to judge me without knowing me at all, as you say. My late wife obviously didn't think I was an asshole and neither do my longtime friends. They all knew and know me way better than you, so STFU! You also don't live in my area, and therefore know nothing about my local dating pool. Your arrogance is matched only by your ignorance of the things you feel you know enough about to judge others on. As I've said before on these boards, it's no mystery why there is so little discussion in recent months from members about their actual dating experiences, outside of posting very safely about funny or silly memes or experiences with foolish people on dating sites. And it's all because of how people get treated if they have the courage to be honest about bad experiences with online dating or IRL dating that involve any negative emotions or experiences, and how when they do share them here, they always get bashed and negatively judged by people like you. So congrats, you have helped ruin what used to be a useful, active, supportive, and sometimes helpful and informative forum for single members. I hope you are proud of what you and others like you have accomplished. Nobody ever disputes what I have said about what has happened to discussions of dating on these forums, and I can only take that as proof that I am right about that and that they agree with me, but aren't willing to open themselves up to criticism about it from people like you.

I don't think an ironclad case will make any difference. The Trumpers don't want to hear about evidence, the law or truth. They will start civil war no matter what happens once they think he is being shafted. And he will never be convicted anyway, no matter what the evidence, as he will demand a jury trial and all they need is to get one MAGA person on the jury, and they will hang it, resulting in a mistrial and enough delay that by the time he might get convicted, by some miracle, there will be a new Repub president in 2024 to pardon him, assuming we are talking a federal case. He already got a break in NY, a blue state where it looked like they had plenty of evidence for a criminal case for financial crimes, but the state AG decided not to prosecute, or maybe it was a federal case in that state. Anyway, he is in the clear for that. And in any red state that somehow goes after him on state charges, all he has to do there is get a pardon from that state's governor after being convicted. Bottom line, he will never see prison, because in two years, the Repubs will run it all in DC. A lot of the MAGAs are pretty thick, but it's not like they are going to be wearing their red hats at jury selection, and they will all be coached beforehand on how to lie during the jury selection, Trump's cronies will make sure of that. They are good at covering up things, including jury tampering...

Nor would she answer why she was leaving Sofabeast alone and picking on and criticizing me, even tho he openly agreed with me on my two dating dealbreakers of not dating a country music fan or a political conservative. Therefore, I had to conclude that SGE either had something personal with me that was motivating her to selectively pick on me, or that she was too afraid of or friendly with Sofabeast to give him any of her venom for hating country music, same as me. Like I've always said on this site, I have never cared about being popular or liked, only about telling the truth and being honest about what I feel and what I see. All because you don't need their approval or acceptance and both know and are good enough with who you are, that the opinions of people like that don't matter. Ron Johnson Suggests Putting Social Security, Medicare up for Cuts Every Year
TomMcGiverin comments on Aug 4, 2022:
How about instead of passing bigger defense budgets each years, with votes that are almost all Yeses, that we start cutting the defense budget every year, in order to cut the national debt? Along with repealing the Trump tax cuts and restore the marginal tax rate to the Eisenhower years level? Don't want to do that?, then it shows that it's not about the national debt at all, it's about beating up on the poor and lower classes, and favoring the rich and corporations. What a fucking, lying hypocrite!
True! Atheists in the Pulpit: Clergy Who Are Non-Believers How Many Atheist Clergy Are There?
TomMcGiverin comments on Aug 4, 2022:
This doesn't surprise me at all, and I do think that clergy who lose their belief in religion deserve compassion and sympathy, rather than condemnation. The other thing is, they can always stay in the clergy as a non-believer, and not have to lie, by switching to the Unitarian Universalist Church, which is currently really hard up for clergy, mostly due to the high cost of their seminaries. They get no financial support from churches for their seminaries, compared to Christian and Catholic seminaries. The other common path for people who leave the clergy, but still want to help people, is that they become social workers, therapists, or counselors. By the time they leave the clergy, they are usually too old to want to go back to college and get a teaching degree, tho that would be a natural fit for them, so they go with one of the three paths I mentioned together.

There you go, things are now unsafe enough that every home needs a gun and a guard animal, dog or cat. Unfortunately, most cats would not be good guard animals, as they would sleep thru anything and even if they didn't, they probably would be too apathetic or afraid to go wake their owner. Would probably just go hide somewhere quietly...

In America, the only truly free people are the rich, glad someone finally called a spade a spade. The problem is that most people are too deluded to see they are slaves to capitalism and the rich, but they don't see it because the pols are too good at defining freedom as the freedom to hate and have more privilege than colored people and the others they hate. Those deluded people also still believe that supporting the status quo capitalism will somehow allow them or their kids to become rich some day, never gonna happen. Most Americans are one paycheck away from homelessness, so they sure as hell aren't free...
brain scans predict political ideology.
TomMcGiverin comments on Aug 2, 2022:
I have read of similar studies before on the brain and political ideology. Those studies found clear differences in how the brains of people reacted differently to particular stimuli, depending on their ideology. Those studies were mainly targetted at how liberals and conservative process different types of messaging differently from each other, such emotionally-based messaging versus ones that are more intellectually based, etc.

I have always hated Libertarian philosophy, as well as most of its followers that I have met, now I understand even more why I do. They and their philosophy are very sick...which makes them dangerous as a movement. They are sick and their movement is evil, but those things do not excuse them morally for the harm they cause to our society and our politics.

Gee, I wonder why nobody, except maybe me, ever posts here anymore about their real life experiences with dating? Probably the same reasons nobody has commented yet on my post or why when anyone does post here about dating, it either has to be someone new to the site that doesn't know how harsh and argumentative this subject has become here, or someone who's been here a while and realizes the only safe thing to post here is humorous posts about what stupid things they've encountered with dating. Because it's become clear that if someone posts about any negative experiences with dating, and shows any honest, vulnerable, sincere feelings, including hurt or anger, they will not get much support, validation, or helpful sharing of the commenter's personal experiences and perspectives that might be helpful or constructive, esp. if the poster is a man. Instead, they will get negative judgement, criticism, and usually blame as well as unsolicited advice, sometimes from people who are "here for community only", and have been out of the dating game for decades, as if they would still know much about the poster's experience in these times. Yeah, I think that pretty well covers it as to why almost nobody will put themselves out here to openly and honestly share their dating woes.... So much for our supportive, connected community on Agnostic...

Is Religion Built In? Noam Chomsky [agnostic.com] .
TomMcGiverin comments on Jul 31, 2022:
I dunno, but I do know that humans, at least most of us, are wired to see things in the natural and physical world, that are mysterious and unexplained, and to then want to find reasons or explanations for those things, even before we are old enough to learn and understand science. Hence, the urge to create religions, long before there was science..
