Though that was part of the "Hope and Change" people were expecting, he did not deliver. Sadly, he was largely a Trojan Horse meant as a continuation of the status quo.
TomMcGiverin replies on Nov 9, 2019:
My fear is that Warren is being groomed to be the new Trojan Horse to fool liberals in case none of the centrists the Dem leadership and the establishment want can win the nomination outright. The media, the Dem leadership, and corporate America, want Biden, Mayor Pete, or Harris to be the nominee, but if those fail Warren is their fallback candidate to serve as the next Obama-all liberal talk, no change, but plenty of selling out.......

@Athena I agree with all of your last assessment. What happened in 2016 was that Bernie's supporters either voted third party, like me, or didn't vote at all, while I heard that about 10% of Trump's voters said they would have voted for Bernie instead of Trump, but instead voted for Trump because of how much they hated Hillary.

@Athena I don't doubt that some Bernie supporters might not vote for Warren if she were nominated over him, but I still maintain that the Dem leaders and establishment of the party care more about stopping him than winning over Trump. I think they would be fine with another term for Trump. So I don't see them nominating him in order to beat Trump. As far as my own voting, it's too early for me to say what I'll do if Bernie gets screwed again on the nomination. Last time I voted for Stein. If Warren were nominated, I would probably vote for her but not expect much of anything, other than a replay of the Obama years of selling out......

@Gwendolyn2018 In my two years of online dating I have seen at least several dozen profiles of women that interested me, maybe even close to a hundred or more, but have only ended up with about a dozen that I met in person after messaging them, getting replies from them, and then messaging enough to ge thru the usual dealbreakers positively enough to end up meeting. That means out of about a hundred or more women that I liked enough to want to meet, only about twelve of them were positively impressed enough to want to meet me. In other words, you were getting a lot more interest from the opposite gender than I was. Some of that is probably because men on dating sites are more aggressive than women and try contacting more women than vice versa.

Quite true. Theoretically, there are hundreds of women in my local area that fit my age range, but after you factor in the deal breakers and traits that you mentioned, as well as the limited number of women that will accept a bald, childless, Agnostic man (when the vast majority of women's profiles make it clear that they only want men who are family men who are also Christian and above average looking), it really comes down to only a couple handfuls of women to choose from that are mutually compatible. Which is why in two years of online dating, I only met about a dozen women in person from the dating site.

The E site has a dysthymia scale that they use to screen out anyone who is prone to depression. I'm guessing that's why they rejected you. Rightly or wrongly, anyone who has issues with depression is unable to use that site, so that leaves only the rest for them. @TrailRider I doubt it. I have tried a few Meetup groups in my local area and they do not seem like much of a substitute for actual communities like churches. The vast majority of people in Meetup groups do not seem to have any real loyalty or commitment to these groups. Instead, the usual pattern of behavior of these young people is to officially join a bunch of these groups at the same time while actually only attending maybe one or two of these groups, and even then, to not attend them regularly. Their whole attitude towards these groups seems to be one of trying to constantly give themselves lots of options of things to do, then deciding as late as possible which option is the best one, for fear of missing out on something better that might come along. Very shallow and self-centered. Not the way that community is built between people.

So, I have to disagree with your assumption that both genders are wrong in thinking it goes equally both ways as far as being overwhelmed with choices. If either of them were 8s or above, I am sure they would never have given me a chance, no matter how compatible we are on paper with other areas besides looks.

@Lorajay I have been doing just fine lately with online dating, Lorajay, so the problem was not my approach, as far as I can tell. It seemed to be more a matter of timing in the calendar year for enrollment and seriousness of women to want to find a dating partner. Also, another factor, which I know will offend some women on here,( but the truth is the truth, even if it sounds unpleasant) is the fact that until recently on the dating sites I use, there was a relative lack of women who were otherwise compatible for me that ALSO were average looking for me to choose from. The result was that I was often forced to try dating out of my league as far as looks to have very many women to message. I am sure BitFlipper can relate to this. This phenomenon is probably part of the reason for my very low response rate, not my approach to women. Looks and numbers are what most of it is about with online dating, Lorajay, whether you like it or not.

@IrishTxJudy Quite true and a good point. But in the case of my late wife, if I had not been very persistent in pursuing her and taking steps to gain her trust after two previous failed marriages, our relationship would never have happened in the first place. In our case, some or most of the healing of her trust happened during, not before the relationship. However, before she even met me she had already become strong and independent with the help of her friends and the Al-Anon program.

Average looking and below men get little interest, because most women on those sites are not just looking for sex and willing to sleep with just anyone to get it. Also, the women on those sites have plenty of above average looking men to choose from, so they put all their attention into them. @Athena See, Athena, that's where you and I differ. Call me overly-cynical, if you will, but I truly believe in my old bones that the Dem leaders and establishment really don't care about winning a prez election as much as they do keeping a real progressive out of power. Because, as I have commented before on these boards, whether they win or lose a prez election, they and their kids will still enjoy going to Ivy League schools, getting lucrative corporate, govt., or Wall Street jobs, as well as continued opportunities to become lobbyists for great money after they leave office. The gravy train never stops for them, whether they win or lose elections, because they play ball with the system in maintaining the status quo and the system rewards them for doing so. They really would rather lose than have Bernie in the White House and nominating the corrupt, damaged, unpopular Hillary proved that to me for good. I knew she would lose to Trump and I told everyone so before it happened, but nobody would listen or believe me because they were naive liberals.

@UUNJ I realize that. Speed dating, in my mind, is the equivalent of getting to online chat or trade messages thru a dating site for an 8 minute period, with the added advantage of seeing them in person instead of having to rely on pics. The same purpose in either case is to determine if you want to meet them for an extended time later for coffee or a real date, based on both physical attraction, personality, and common interests/background.

You raise a good point, Bob. That format, where you are first hit with someone's looks, rather than info about them coming at the same time such as in a dating profile, does over-emphasize the looks of the person. Even 8 minutes is not long enough to get that much of a read on the person's total compatibility regarding personality, common interests, background, etc..But, then again, studies have consistently proven that both men and women make up their minds within two minutes or less of meeting someone, most of the time, about whether someone wants to have sex with someone they just met from online dating.

Agreed. That's why in online dating I try to meet in person within a few days of connecting with someone. I don't want to trade messages with them for a week before meeting. The other reason is I want to get the in person meeting done soon after connecting so I can determine chemistry, physical attraction, or whatever you may call it so I know if I want to continue or not. Too many people do not provide adequate or current enough pics to get much of an idea of that from their profiles. Even then, you need the in person meeting to check what vibes you get being around them.

I think it's more a thing of more short term growth in members on Batch now that summer is over and people are getting more serious about meeting someone online for this fall. Probably figured it wasn't worth the time or money over the summer with travel, vacations, etc. Could also be that lately more overall compatible women have been joining who are also at my level of looks so I am not trying to date out of my league, so to speak, maybe as often as I was during spring and summer. I will adopt the three date rule with the others, like another member of this group, and, if the other women want to keep seeing me, go on three dates with each of them until we either hit dealbreakers or they don't want to see me anymore. Of course, if I do decide to become sexually involved with any of them, I owe it to all of them to let them know about seeing the other women and not become sexually involved with more than one. Like you, tho, I will try not burn bridges if I decide to see someone exclusively. I will tell the others I want to date someone exclusively and see where it goes, but would like to be able to see the others later if it doesn't work out and they are available at that time. The very fact that he's seen as such a danger to the corrupt Dem establishment is what confirms for me that he's our best bet for real change.
TomMcGiverin replies on Sep 5, 2019:
Exactly. As a socialist, to me whoever Wall Street, corporate America, and the Dem establishment hate the most is the best endorsement of who we need to reform things. We need another FDR and Bernie is as close as we get these days.
Why They Hate Bernie
Spinliesel comments on Sep 5, 2019:
Also well educated old ladies who understand political systems and are not afraid of speaking about it!
TomMcGiverin replies on Sep 5, 2019:
@WilliamCharles Damn right! Bernie or bust. I don't take shit about or apologize for anything about Bernie. He is the only pol on the national scene who always tells the truth about what is wrong and can't be bought with campaign money or speaking fees, unlike all the rest of them, including Warren.
If you could spend a week with any entertainer who would you choose?
TomMcGiverin comments on Sep 5, 2019:
They're both dead, but that would have to be Lennon, in the statue there, because he was so smart and funny or else Leonard Cohen, who wasn't rock music, but equally funny and smart. I didn't include Bob Dylan because I have often heard he can be pretty anti-social and unfriendly a lot of the time, ...
TomMcGiverin replies on Sep 5, 2019:
@GreenAtheist These behaviors I read about predated his 1980s conversion to Christianity.
Ok.

In the past few years, I've been on OK Cupid, Plenty of Fish, and now Zoosk. Honestly, this ad looks pretty typical of the women that I get matched up with.
TomMcGiverin replies on Sep 4, 2019:
Sadly, you are right about how many real profiles on paid dating sites contain at least some of these cliche wishes. This profile just happens to include all of the usual cliches, which is why I agree with the other comments that it is probably a scammer rather than a real profile.
Will You Still Love You When You're No Longer Young and Beautiful?
Ms_McSteven comments on Sep 4, 2019:
I love myself more now that I'm older, scarred, wrinkled, and crabby. I was always smart and funny, inventive and resilient, thoughtful and generous...but when I was also built like a brick house, with long hair and big tits, my character mattered to no one. Now it does.
TomMcGiverin replies on Sep 4, 2019:
@Ms_McSteven Well put. Except I have always cared about brains and character, not just looks. I guess that makes me different than other men.

Unfortunately good looks in this society will lead to a lot of forgiveness for lack of depth or character. But eventually age will catch up with most of the beautiful on their outside.
I hit sort of a milestone yesterday.

Wonderful to hear Tom. It gives me hope. Though I'm still not sure what to hope for ;)
