Robecology comments on Jul 18, 2021:
The whole vaccine thing is a scientific breakthrough on two fronts; 1. It's the first time they've used mitochondrial Ribo nucleic Acid (M.R.N.A.) to create the anti-bodies to fight the antigen (COVID19). 2. It was done in phenomenally record setting time - although Corona-virus research had been going on since 2003. Vaccines usually take several years to evolve...this one was quickly created but cautiously tested...the first one (Pfizer) without US funds - but required CO2 deep freezing....the deep-freezing requirements were gradually removed. It's these two phenomena that has the uneducated in the world hesitant to partake in the vaccine. But Fauci and Biden have been working hard to educate the public about it's efficacy and safety. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC7371592/ and https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/vaccines/safety/safety-of-vaccines.html Please; consider sharing this and any of these articles with anyone who's hesitant. It's the hesitant ones who are not only helping the evolution of stronger strains (the "Delta" variant) but are putting our hospital workers through yet another hell.

I've been married 4 times. I've tried hard to make it work. I think it's been a total of close to 30 years. But the most success I've found is being intimate with a lady friend who lives hours away. We've "known"each other - off and on...for going on 14 years. So, yes; this relationship is working. I don't look forward to the day she moves closer.

I don't know...maybe this disease will reduce their number? Maybe evolution works?

We are here for only a short time. If a person is saddened beyond recovery, whether it's "real" or imagined...I make a motion to accept his decision to end his/her existence. Perhaps we can read them a final universal statement that - if after having read or having been read that statement still chose to end their time here... then I say we should not only "facilitate" that exit... But we should do so with a willingness and even an air of celebration. What Dawkins says here is what I read constantly. I think we should consider addressing this more openly.

Robecology comments on Jul 9, 2021:
The question isn't clear. Genetics is the science that explains natural selection and evolution. Can some families select behaviors that make them more "vulnerable to indoctrination by irrational beliefs' - as in becoming religious or superstitious? Sure. But these behaviors - while leading to more procreation - are also leading to less survival skills - more obesity, less health consciousness, more unwise decisions that might enrich their wealth but not necessarily their survival nor their health. In other words....the religious are less likely to survive as well as the un or non-religious. Look at what's happening to the COVID delta victims. Over 99% of them are those who intentionally avoided the vaccine - some would say for political reasons, others for pseudo-science reasons (fear of complications - that have been proven inaccurate), and still others...I'm afraid it's those who are "vulnerable to indoctrination by irrational beliefs"... Read; "Fauci: More than 99% of people who died from COVID-19 in June were not vaccinated" https://thehill.com/policy/healthcare/561585-fauci-more-than-99-of-people-who-died-from-covid-19-in-june-were-not?rl=1 In some population-genetic studies it's been proven that the thought levels of the organisms studied didn't seem to be relevant to their survival...but these studies were done with fruit flies, rats, or ants...none that I know of were done with humans. But as a Tesla owner since 2013...and just a retired public school teacher with no "gifts' nor inheritances to speak of....I must speak out for Elon Musk. He's different than Branson and Bezos. He's committed to changing the energy use from Fossil fuels to Renewables.https://www.tesla.com/about He's not greedy....two of the 3 top cars re-percentage made in America - are Teslas. He's opened his Patents to all other Electric Vehicle (EV) car makers. In his geekish manor, he worded his statement in the language of foreign =-made gamers. https://www.tesla.com/blog/all-our-patent-are-belong-you. He's not a player like Branson and Bezos...he's a good father to his 6 kids. https://www.madeformums.com/news/elon-musk-children-bio/ I share this same sentiment whenever I see Musk attacked on FB - either by the union people (who hate him because - while he offers a much lower salary than most car makers...he offers much higher benefits). So - to summarize; I agree with the higher taxes...but we need to cut Elon some slack. .

For those people that actlike all corona viruses are the same, they've been in the human population ...
Robecology comments on Jul 5, 2021:
The point to make about viruses is that they need more warm-blooded 'alive" hosts to reproduce and mutate at a faster rate, They have 1 whole lifetime in 8 hours....they can literally become grandparents - without sex - in 24 hours/1 day. The stronger strain of COVID is already raising death rates in many nations who have less than 1% vaccinated. Add to that our growth...."only" a 1% growth rate (projected to continue growing for 70-90 more years) but 1% of the present population of 7.88 billion is 78,8 million more "virus-growing mechanisms" per year...that comes out to 150 more births, than deaths, per minute. The math is 78.8 m divided by 365.25, (days per year) then by 24 (hours per day) then by 60 (minutes per hour) Things are looking very good for viruses...very bad for humans. https://www.worldometers.info

Robecology comments on Jul 2, 2021:
Found a great follow-up to Psaki's defense of the Olympian Gwen Berry; as it turns out - her arguments for not wanting to stand during the anthem were very sound; from a FB article by Fareed Zakaria ; Last week, Gwen Berry finished third in a U.S. Olympic trials event and turned away in protest as the national anthem was played. In explaining her behavior, she said, “If you know your history, you’d know the full song of the national anthem". "The third paragraph speaks to slaves in America leaving "our blood . . . all over the floor". It’s disrespectful, and it does not speak for black Americans.” Wherever you come out on this issue, I will confess it forced me to learn more about “The Star-Spangled Banner” (which was adopted as the national anthem only in 1931). Its third verse does indeed make harsh reference to enslaved people who dared to try to escape their captivity, and the person who wrote it, Francis Scott Key, was a nasty racist. Americans care about history because the stakes are high.

They eat, drink, play and mate all day...their children never have to spend years sitting at a desk nor in a "school" (pun not intended)...and have decided to have a few volunteers to entertain humans in exchange for an end to the hunting and persecution. Oh...and they (allegedly - we'll never know for sure) decided not to build radio nor TV...they will never discover E.T... I'd call the Dolphins a lot smarter...But they've been around a few million years more than we have. Hmmmm.

I found that this wasn't the exact reasons they had for biking were they did - The headline they employed, which they later changed — “Millennial Couple Bikes Through ISIS Territory to Prove ‘Humans Are Kind’ and Gets Killed” — and other phrasing may have created the impression that the couple’s deaths were infused with irony and served as a kind of allegorical warning about cosmopolitan, liberal naivety: A progressive young American couple was killed in an Islamic State-claimed terrorist attack last month while on a bike trip around the world … Throughout the trip, the couple embraced the kindness of strangers and sought to demonstrate that people are inherently good. “You read the papers and you’re led to believe that the world is a big, scary place,” Austin wrote. “People, the narrative goes, are not to be trusted. People are bad. People are evil.” “I don’t buy it,” he continued. “Evil is a make-believe concept we’ve invented to deal with the complexities of fellow humans holding values and beliefs and perspectives different than our own … By and large, humans are kind. Self-interested sometimes, myopic sometimes, but kind. Generous and wonderful and kind.” So... Based on their own written reflections posted during their trip, Austin and Geoghegan were not acting as liberal, idealist missionaries, despite the impression that the Pluralist headline might have created. https://www.snopes.com/fact-check/millenial-couple-isis-tajikistan/

Sick is different from evil. Sick is almost accidental. Evil is cruel, mean, corrupt, etc with intention. So #1...they're not the same. #2; If you're a demographer or a population biologist you don't even factor in evil...for example - is it evil or sick that female spiders and mantids eat their mates...or is it just an observable trait that they evolved to survive? Proven fact; if you take any population of any organism...even plants....and overcrowd them...they take action to reduce the crowding. (https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC1501789/pdf/califmed00143-0080.pdf) That's what's happened in Saskatchewan...and in 1930's Germany. And in 19th century America...and in Vietnam....and the Crusades....it's simply "population density" that's causing this. This isn't sickness. Nor evil. But it is a sign that more and more are competing harder and harder for less and less. T.J. Malthus said it elegantly in 1812; "As the quantity of life (humanity) in any given area increases, the quality of life decreases. And he said this when the earth was around 1 billion. Now we're increasing at the rate of 150 more births, than deaths, per minute. https://www.worldometers.info Sorry to tell you...it's a natural reaction.

So you DO care what "anyone" says...? (My point is you don't need to say the pre-text- I concur....everyone hates an ungrateful person).
I do my best... 🌻🌻🌻

We peak in our late teens/early 20's. Most Olympic athletes know this....that's why most who are in vigorous strenuous sports retire early. Notice in this chart; the only ages going in to the 30's are shooting and horseback-riding events.
More hypocrisy from the Left

Robecology comments on Jun 22, 2021:
@AlanCiiffe It's a vague question; let me see if I got you...which faction, big tech or the Trumpist group will do a better job at keeping people stupid? The data shows that education level is growing...albeit very slowly. So I'm not sure if I follow you. This new delta variant of COVID might put a significant dent in to the population of the anti-vaxxer/Trump faction - this could lead to hundreds of thousands - if not millions - of deaths - world wide - in a few months. Big tech is so vague a concept; lots of big tech is involved in education (we're using "big tech" to send and receive these messages world wide - and big tech has recently been attacked by ransomware ) so I need you to elaborate on what you mean by "big tech"?

Robecology comments on Jun 20, 2021:
I had to do some research to find out how big the "giant Rhino" was...I found out this; Paraceratherium linxiaense sp The exact size of Paraceratherium is unknown because of the incompleteness of the fossils. The shoulder height was about 4.8 metres (15.7 feet), and the length about 7.4 metres (24.3 feet). Its weight is estimated to have been about 15 to 20 tonnes (33,000 to 44,000 lb). The long neck supported a skull that was about 1.3 metres (4.3 ft) long It was, at first appearance...like a giant horse! https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paraceratherium
Took a camera for a short walk this morning.

Ahh...a fence-sitter...in transition between Gnoticism and Agnosticism...between Theism and atheism. Read this, @mrashleycain, then find where you fit in the two diagrams. Perhaps you shouldn't even be here?
I am seriously considering leaving Agnostic.
Robecology comments on Jun 20, 2021:
@Wordywalt Your assumptions are not only negative but showing an unscientific prejudice. Why assume that some are "just posting for points"? You keep saying "they" do this and that...based on what? You're starting to sound #religulous...maybe it is time for you to end your contacts here. I'm even sad that you're even announcing a departure...a desperate plea to be "rescued? Why assume that some are "simply interested in points simply post huge numbers of lifted pieces from other sources"....is that a concept that you assumed? Remember what it means to ASSume... Good luck with your departure from Agnostic. It's clear you are headed down a negative road...and your assumptions are more like the #religulous than any open minded free thinker... .so take your troubled soul elsewhere....and join us again, when you're ready to see the good in us rather than the not so good.

@JackPedigo; I can't concur with your comment that "Technology will not save us and often makes things worse." I'm sad that you come to that conclusion. Fortunately - many more scientists who are strongly involved in redirecting our world also disagree with you, "Technological advancements are evolving at incredible speed and scale." "Can then the Fourth Industrial Revolution help mitigate and reverse the Anthropocene’s effects?" The folks who put together this report seem a lot more optimistic than you are....and know a lot more about the issues than you do. https://www.weforum.org/agenda/2018/09/can-technology-save-life-on-earth/

@Bobwjr I'm impressed with the FBI's work to have found, arrested, charged, and convicted over 465 people involved in the terrorist pro-Trump attack on the Capitol. Biden's doing a good job....Trump is a has-been who, sadly, hasn't been convicted of a crime - yet. https://www.cbsnews.com/news/capitol-riot-arrests-latest-2021-06-18/

Damn, busted.
