To answer your original question; you have to find "summer jobs". I worked as everything from a lifeguard to a Glass-bottom-boat tour guide assistant. Hang in there. Dress nicely (conservatively, jacket and tie), and ask to meet with the principal....of all the schools you sub for. I suffered "permanent substitute" status the first year I moved to Florida. It was embarrassing and frustrating - but I retired in 2012 with full benefits. That full time job will come; but you have to put yourself out there. Easiest way? Shake hands with the principals. Ask to "have a meeting with them"...All of them within a half-hour drive of where you live. Simple...you just want to share your resume, your interests...and you want to know their strategy as well (if the secretary asks for "a reason you want to meet with the principal". It could be a 5 minute meeting...but meet with him/her, and hand them your resume. (Get many copies printed). You'll get that full time job soon. Recommendation; get rid of the facial hair for now. Trim up the hair. Dress nicely. You can always grow the facial hair back. School admins tend to be conservative.

Smart move on that chimney extension. I see in one of the other images that it's a dense smoke coming out (wood? coal?). One more question...It appears that two clock hands are on the front face of one of the machines; One at 10:30 the other at 2:15....I assume they weren't working clocks...was that a way to signal times?
