Trump's bumper sticker is out
Redheadedgammy comments on Apr 6, 2020:
Where can I get one????😉
glennlab replies on Apr 7, 2020:
@Redheadedgammy I normally keep sheets of crack and peel paper for exactly that type of request. The first test is to make sure that the file can be reproduced, this one would probably require a complete redo to make it useable. Both attempt to reproduce had tons of garbage on the page. Campaigns float a lot of ideas out and see which ones stick, I think this one will probably be on the list.

I tried printing it, the artwork is just not that reproducible. I will bet the campaigns pick up on it and fix the artwork.

Bats are getting a bad rap, it was most likely transmitted in bat feces and poor hygiene methods. But eating flying rats should be a no no anyhow.
glennlab replies on Apr 6, 2020:
@Lizard_of_Ahaz Neither of these say that the disease came from eating bats, in fact both state something quite different. Simply finding an article that says that bats have closely related viruses is not saying that it came from bats. The ONLY scientific article quoted states that it most likely came from bats or pangolins, perhaps if you read the whole article before posting it you would see what it said. from the non science article "Bats can pass along viruses in their poop: If they drop feces onto a piece of fruit that a civet then eats, the civet can become a disease carrier." that you referenced.

@Lizard_of_Ahaz "Research evidence suggests that SARS-CoV and MERS-CoV originated in bats, and it is likely that SARS-CoV-2 did as well." is a long way from people got it from eating bats. Try again. By the way the article I quoted is a synopsis of an article in Nature Medicine, a peer reviewed journal.

@Lizard_of_Ahaz To be honest there is no direct evidence that it came from bats either from feces or eating, from science daily... "This evidence for natural evolution was supported by data on SARS-CoV-2's backbone -- its overall molecular structure. If someone were seeking to engineer a new coronavirus as a pathogen, they would have constructed it from the backbone of a virus known to cause illness. But the scientists found that the SARS-CoV-2 backbone differed substantially from those of already known coronaviruses and mostly resembled related viruses found in bats and pangolins." for the full article go to https://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2020/03/200317175442.htm

Tens of thousands would cover up to 200,000 deaths, so i hope that me estimates are closer than that. My gov is one of the worst humans on the face of the planet, after suing the person that owned the tree that fell on him and getting untold millions, (literally untold, the case is sealed), the first bill he filed as a legislator was to limit tort claims to $250,000. He got his, now screw everyone else.

@Mets Yes it does, each state elects the members of the elctoral college based on the popular vote in that state. Because of a 1906 law that limits the house to 435 members smaller states have an outsized influence on the outcome, but the actual votes in every state count. Otherwise the republicans would not keep trying to reduce the voting population in swing states.

@AtheistInNC Since most people are not accountants, they look at purchase price versus what it will do not long term costs. Since a Tesla costs twice as much as a comparable gasoline vehicle it has to provide twice the benefit to be attractive. I agree that coal power production will be phased out, and the sooner the better. I have been hearing that electric cars would be the future for over 40 years, as soon as the technology was there. There are still not enough charging stations and in many areas there are none. Gasoline cars had similar obsticles to overcome and it took them decades to do it. It took an innovation that priced a car where the average person could afford it before infrastructure was put in place. If electric vehicles were that attractive now, most people would have them, they're not so people don't. Don't take this as me being against electric, I'm not. I'm not going to make a lifestyle change until the things I want to do are included in that change, and I would say that applies to most people. The numbers speak for themselves.Out of 270 million vehicles on the road, slightly more than 1 million are electric, I stand by my use of the word most. 99%is a little over half don't you think?

@HumanistJohn The city planted the wildflower area, but rather than let it expand to encompass the entire area available, when they mow, they restrict it to the original plot layed out 10 years ago. It is self seeding, but just barely. They mow it completely as soon as it has gone to seed.

That is a good primer. I have quite a few flourescent minerals in my rock buckets, but I needed a light that was easy to handle (my four foot tube is a little unwieldy) . I was also surprised that the opposum that likes to dine in my composte has at least four different flourescent colors under its fur. Not sure whether it's something he she came in contact with or just her skin.

Couldn't find the reference I was looking for but this is the quote "Egg-laying (ovipositing) involves not only the female darting over floating or waterside vegetation to deposit eggs on a suitable substrate, but also the male hovering above her or continuing to clasp her and flying in tandem. The male attempts to prevent rivals from removing his sperm and inserting their own,[45] something made possible by delayed fertilisation[33][43] and driven by sexual selection.[42] If successful, a rival male uses his penis to compress or scrape out the sperm inserted previously; this activity takes up much of the time that a copulating pair remains in the heart posture.[44] Flying in tandem has the advantage that less effort is needed by the female for flight and more can be expended on egg-laying, and when the female submerges to deposit eggs, the male may help to pull her out of the water.[45]

I understand dogs can get this, too. So does this mean we can pass this back and forth? An extra way to spread it around?
glennlab replies on Mar 29, 2020:
@EyesThatSmile Most inter species infecton vectors are one way. The mutations necessary to make the jump normally close the door to jump back. The virus uses RNA from its host to replicate which makes it more species specific the longer it stays in that species.

It is still in the "might be", farther testing is required per the article.
glennlab replies on Mar 29, 2020:
@Jetty They edited from the bottom as is customary in print media, the last paragraph states: "To prove definitively that the cat was infected with SARS-CoV-2, scientists will need a blood test to look for antibodies specific to this virus, Van Gucht said. Those tests will happen once the cat is no longer under quarantine."

glennlab replies on Mar 29, 2020:
@Robecology You totally ignored my argument, and proved my point. there is no current electric vehicle that will meet my needs. I will travel 1500 miles frequently. A 1000 miles in one day is not unheard of in my travels.. It takes 6 hours just to get out of Texas That is what i need a car for, not some get to point a that's 4 miles away. Overnight is no where near 15 minutes and again your overnight is simply transfering the source of pollution down the road where it is emitted in a much more concentrated form. Accusing me of horse and buggy thinking is really uncalled for. You know nothing of my circumstances or my habits. FYI I have driven one, and they will not meet my needs. 400 miles in one direction will not even get me out of Texas.

glennlab replies on Mar 29, 2020:
Until they make an electric vehicle that can go 300 miles, then recharge in 15 minutes, then go another 300 miles before needing another 15 minute stop, it will not be accepted by most people. All of the current solutions that near this capabilities require sometype of gasoline or deisel back up. Also they don't recharge for free and most power in this country is produced by coal, then natural gas. The day is coming, but probably not in 10 years.

Most of the wildflowers right now are about 24 inches high with some lupine starting to bloom, I will take a run at it tomorrow and see if I can get any I'm happy with.
